Marcos Pontes, first and only Brazilian spacefarer, has been elected into the Federal Senate of his country during the elections yesterday (Oct. 7, 2018).

Pontes will serve as second deputy to the prime seatholder, Major Olímpio, from the PSL.

Brazil's President-elect Jair Bolsonaro has announced on Twitter that Marcos Pontes will be nominated as his science and technology minister.
I communicate that lieutenant colonel and astronaut Marcos Pontes, an engineer graduated in ITA, will be nominated for the Ministry of Science and Technology.
