Grissom Air Reserve Base release
Grissom to hold rededication ceremony today

To honor the base's namesake and one of America's original seven astronauts, Grissom ARB will hold a special rededication ceremony today.

The base was named in honor of Lt. Col. Virgil "Gus" Grissom on May 12, 1968, and today's ceremony will not only rededicate the base in his honor, but include the unveiling of a special memorial plaque and feature the first official event in the new Gus Grissom Hall.

The special ceremony will include a performance of patriotic songs by the Peru (Ind) High School Choir and Jazz Band, flag ceremony and taps by a combined Purdue Air Force ROTC/Grissom ARB Honor Guard, and guest speakers, including Lowell (Gus' brother) and Scott Grissom (Gus' son).

Grissom ARB is one of only five bases in the Air Force Reserve Command and is home to the 434th Air Refueling Wing.
