Amen to those thoughts. A few years back, my wife Pat and I stayed for several days with Christa's mother Grace Corrigan at her invitation in her Framingham home in Massachusetts, where Christa grew up. While we were there, Grace remarked that Pat had been born just three days before her Christa, and they got on famously well.

Christa would undoubtedly have proved to be a great influence on young people and students everywhere had she returned from her flight, and a tremendous role model. That influence still lives on in the many hundreds of institutions, scholarships and programs that have been created in her name, and those of the Challenger crew, and especially in the dozens of Challenger Learning Centers that have been established to teach young people about the mysteries and wonders of space flight. She will always be a bright and inspiring star in the firmament of life, and though she did not personally realise her cherished dream of flying into space and conducting an educational program from orbit, it is being fulfilled for her every day of every year. And that is a truly wonderful legacy.

I remember begin the editor of our high school newspaper at the time (1985) and interviewing an applicant at our school for the Teacher in Space program.

As a teacher today, it is inspiring to imagine that I could be teaching one of the next astronauts to return to the moon or beyond.
