I have a couple of friends who are space buffs, WWII history buffs, and ex-submariners. We're curious to know on what submarines Max Faget served on during the war. Anyone know? |

Don't know on board which boats he served but as Max Faget was a submariner maybe it partly explains how the first Mercury capsule ended up with a periscope instead of a window... |

The Mercury capsule also had depth charges. A device called SOFAR, that was an explosive device that was suppose to go off if the capsule sunk. At a certain depth it was suppose to go off in order to be detected on sonar, giving a location where the capsule sunk. Luckily for Liberty Bell 7 it didn't go off and destroy the capsule. |

So maybe there is an explanation here for what happened to Liberty Bell 7. It didn't sink, it dived. | |
