Pasadena Star-News: Buzz Aldrin to be given honorary county position
Buzz Aldrin, an astronaut on the first mission to land on the Moon, will be recognized Tuesday by the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors to honor the contribution of veterans to the country's space program.

Aldrin, who served in the U.S. Air Force before joining NASA, will be given the title of Honorary Consul General to the Moon from the County of Los Angeles.

The Board of Supervisors' meeting agenda for Tuesday includes:
Presentation of scroll to Gemini 12 and Apollo 11 Astronaut Buzz Aldrin, and also on behalf of the 24 Apollo Astronauts who reached the vicinity of the Moon, who represents the highest ideals of a seasoned American military officer, American military aviator, American veteran, and American space explorer, and bestow upon him the title of Honorary Consul General to the Moon from the County of Los Angeles, as arranged by Supervisor Antonovich.

Does this mean there's a lunar consulate in Los Angeles? And if so, is there a visa needed to go to the moon? (And if not, is there someplace I at least can get my passport stamped?)

...and if we can prove (forge) lunar citizenship, will they transport us "home" for free?

California has pretty much become a de facto sanctuary state by this time so nobody is getting shipped back to the Moon.

As for Lunar Consulate, I could add that all indications are that former Gov Moonbeam will be running again for Gov in 2010 to replace the termed out Arnold.

I remember the good old days as a child when they built real rocket ships and real rocket planes in California. All we got left now are space cadets! Beam me up Scotty.
