Retail Jeweler: First Scot in space backs Ball Watches Ball Watches has unveiled its latest brand ambassador, pilot Brian Binnie, the first Scot to go into space. The pilot broke through the 100km barrier to achieve weightlessness in 2004, aboard the privately funded SpaceShipOne airplane.Ball Watches said: "We are proud to support the greatest human performances. Brian Binnie and the brand share the same values: a thirst for adventure and exploration, technology, precision and reliability." Other Ball Watches brand Ambassadors include champion constant weight-free diver Guillaume and storm chaser Joshua Wurman. |

That's nice for Binnie, but "first Scot"? He had a Scottish father, was born in Indiana and spent just 10 years or so in Scotland. I find all this "first ethnic" stuff somewhat meaningless and without any relevance to our so-called "multi-cultural" world. Value the man for his achievements, not his (remote) ethnicity. | |
