BookMinded release
Win An Afternoon with NASA Astronaut, Winston E. Scott!

This school year starts with a space defying opportunity. NASA Astronaut Winston E. Scott is participating in a national contest, Win an Afternoon with Winston E. Scott -- the Astronaut, providing students the extraordinary opportunity to meet and interact with a real-life astronaut. Launched on the first of September, educators who purchase Astronaut Scott's latest release, Reflections from Earth Orbit, have an opportunity to win a school visit from Astronaut Scott.

The story of Winston E. Scott is one of many, which make up the rich history and remarkable success of the first fifty years of NASA. In the autobiographical pictorial, Reflections from Earth Orbit, Scott recalls early childhood memories including his early fascination with aviation, becoming a member of his high school band and the pivotal moment when a teacher went out on a limb for him, ensuring he went to college, "I recognized the limitless potential existing within me, and became acquainted with the limitless possibilities existing before me. All I had to do was decide what I wanted to do in life -- and then do it." Determined, he made his way through Naval Aviation Officer Candidate School and embarked on a career which lead him to literally work among the stars. Ultimately Scott accumulated a total of 24 1/2 days in space, including 19 1/2 hours spacewalking.

The winning school will receive a visit and presentation from Astronaut Winston E. Scott during which students and teachers are encouraged to ask questions and actively engage with a living legend. The contest ends October 31, 2008.

Reflections from Earth Orbit is available wherever books are sold. ($23.95/ISBN#I-894959-22-1/Apogee Books).

Did any other cSers enter this contest? I put in 2 entries. Last week I emailed the promoter to see if they did they drawing, and I still haven't heard back. I realize that it is a long shot for me to actually "win" Winston Scott, but I would be excited just to win one of the 25 autographed photos and hang it up in my classroom.
