The Orlando Sentinel: Walter O. Lowrie, 84, loved exploring universe's mysteries Walter O. Lowrie was always fascinated with science and the universe, his daughter said.He spent his career pursuing that fascination, working as an engineer for aerospace company Martin Marietta and serving as director of the Viking program, a NASA mission that landed two spacecraft on Mars. "I don't think there's much of anything in his life that he tackled that he didn't succeed at," said Allison Lowrie, Walter's daughter. Lowrie died Dec. 10 at Florida Hospital Altamonte.
