Who are those guys? I know several but would dearly/desparately like to know all in both photo's (#1 - TOP, #2 - Bottom). Therefore, if you can identify above/said/aforementioned function and any or all individuals please respond in poste-haste. - What ceremony/celebration/award is taking place in #1 photo? Hint/Clue - Nov. 1961, X-15 model on desk.
- Who are the (6) individuals from left to right? Titles would be nice (impossible).
- Who are the individuals in #2 photo in white shirts (3 -left to right) surrounding the gentleman in the dark suit (?). Hint - Examination of IGU.
Who ever identifies the most elements (1 Event, 10-12 individuals), before midnight March 2 (Tom Wolfe's Birthday), will receive a cashiers check for $100 before midnight (+ or - 1 hr.) March 9th (Daylight Savings Time). Will gladly donate to a charity of your choice, preferably the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation, or Boy Scouts of America. Regards and respectfully, JAC |

JAC-Photo #1 I have no idea. The X-15 is something I never studied. Photo #2 Gentlemen with jacket looking down is Scott Carpenter. To his right(looking up) is Alan Shepard. Next to him with his arms crossed is Deke Slayton. Behind Deke looks like Walter Burke. Man standing(with his back to us) could be Chuck Mathews. Over his right shoulder looks like Chris Kraft. Man over Carpenter's left shoulder looks like it could be Charles Donlan. Over his right shoulder looks like Alfred Eggers. Standing to Carpenter's left with white shirt is Thomas O'Mally. My eyes are old. Don't show my wife this, she doesn't think I can remember anything. -Lou |

Dear Eagle: I agree re: Shepard, Carpenter, and Deke Slayton. I do wonder whether one of them might be North American's Dr. Joseph Corvi. The rest remain a mystery to me. Good luck! Rob |

The guy to Carpenter's left (in white shirt) might be a young George Abbey. |

Gentleman and to who it may concern or interest:Thank you for the thoughtful response/comments. Astronaut ID's had to were easy, regardless thank you, however, I am still hoping to discover more identities and perhaps communicate with anyone that worked with or knew the above and aforementioned. Perhaps, this additional information may stir memories/recognition/interest. Photo #1 Proposal/Management NAA Team that received Apollo Contract. Left to Right: - Assistant Chief Engineer
- V.P.
- President, General Manager (Stormy)
- ?
- Chief Engineer, Director Corporate Vehicles.
- Asst. General Manager
With the exception of Harrison Storms these men are unknown/MIA."THE FIVE HORSEMAN OF APOLLO-LYPSE" Thank you, JAC Jr. |

I think Lou, having worked back then, has the best handle on who the guys are. I don't think that's George Abbey, though I thought it was him at first glance, too. But then I remembered he's had the same haircut since the 1950s and still has all of it. That guy (Lou says it's O'Malley) looks to have a bit of a receding hairline.Have you checked the pictures in "Angle of Attack," Stormy's bio? I'd be surprised if a couple of those guys weren't ID'd in there. Cheers, Kevin |

Agreed. To the extent that it's possible to identify someone with their face obscured.

I think I can add a couple names to the first picture:1. This is probably Norman J. Ryker, Jr.. he's described in Storm's book as "slender, young, crewcut, with rimless glasses." Sounds like this guy to me! He was definitely in the program at this time, and he is listed as an assistant chief engineer on the 1962 org chart I have. 2. John W. Paup, became program manager for Apollo under Stormy. Almost 100% sure on this one. 3. Stormy. 4. Pretty sure this is Charlie (Charles H.) Feltz. He was the eventual Chief Engineer for Apollo. Almost 100% sure on this, based on other photos. 5. This one has me perplexed. Both Ryker and Feltz were chief engineers at various points, but this guy isn't either of them. Some other educated guesses: For #6: Since Stormy is listed as general manager by you, I assume the "assistant GM" was his second in command. On my chart, this would be H.R. Raynor, who is the Executive Vice President. I haven't seen a pic of him, so I can't confirm or deny. It doesn't seem that likely, though. One of the unidentified guys might be John McCarthy, who is also usually identified as one of the key NAA Apollo proposal people, but again, I haven't seen a photo. he's described as "cherubic and little" which doesn't really match anyone in the photo. I'll do a little more digging to see if I can find anything, but this is the result of my best efforts thus far. Hoep it helps. Cheers, Kevin |
