In the YouTube "For All Mankind" excerpt mentioned in this post, Collins is seen playing ukulele for a few seconds... and changing chords (his left hand) which would indicate he knew what he was doing. Was he a musician?

Well he did have to play 'second fiddle' to Armstrong and Aldrin during Apollo 11...

Bonjour François,

This is not Collins but Armstrong playing ukulele and yes he was a musician in his high school years.
