Novosti Kosmonavtiki (via Jim Oberg) reports that Gay Ilich "Guy" Severin, 81, former Chief Designer and General Designer for OKB Zvezda has died. Severin led the design of Soviet spacesuits, EVA airlocks and ejection seats. |

That is sad. OKB Zvezda designed practically every suit for the Soviet and Russian programs, going all the way back to Gagarin's flight. I picked up the Praxis book on the Russian suits recently and it is an excellent read for people who love to read about stuff like this. And Severin had a hand in that history.* |

Leonov; space suits under L-3 Lunar Program; shock-absorbing seats for Voskhod and Soyuz seats; space suits and escape facilities for Buran Orbiter; cosmonaut maneuvering and transfer unit in open space; series of on-orbit extravehicular suits "Orlan" and a number of other systems and articles.
