Just curious if anyone out there recognizes the name Constantin Paul Lent. He wrote some works on rocket jet engineering in the 1940s/1950s. I couldn't find any information of substance about him online. Is he an overlooked figure in the history of rocket development, or...? |

According to the dust jacket bio of his book "Rocket Research," Lent was a "graduate mechanical engineer, industrial designer and inventor ... [He] was Vice-President of the ARS during 1944."According to the history of the AIAA ("Rocketeers and Gentlemen Engineers" by Tom Crouch, AIAA, 2006), the ARS was interested in developing an engineering handbook of liquid-propellant rocketry in the 1940s. Lent took on the challenge under the auspices of the ARS, but the his efforts were poorly reviewed and subsequently rejected by the ARS. Lent self-published his results under the title "Rocket Research: History and Handbook" (NY: Pen-Ink Pub. Co.), which first appeared in 1944 with additional printings/editions in 1945, 1946 and 1948. He also wrote a few other books related to rockets and rocketry. Hope that helps. |

In addition to three of his books I have a very large file on Lent, consisting of a number of copies of his magazine, "Rocket-Jet Flying," his correspondence with Fred Durant and a file of biographical materials from Lent's daughter. Much of this formed the basis for this short article.
