Can anyone provide a link to a biography of Stehling, or provide more detailed info.
There is just bits and pieces on him seaching in google.

My limited info. is that Dr. Stehling, an american rocket pioneer, was a senior science official on the U.S. Vanguard satellite/launch vehicle. An all around genius in developing new launch vehicle concepts and earth satellite applications. He worked on the X-1 and X-2 rocket aeroplanes, and did pioneer rocket engine work at Bell Aircraft Corp. in Buffalo NY 1950-55). He is quit an author too.

If you can ever find the book Project Vanguard published in 1960 you will enjoy an element of Stehling's writing style that is so sadly missing today.

Joe: I will keep my eye open for Stehling
information. He worked on one of my favorite
prgrams: Vanguard.
Do you have any stories or iamges of your
tenure in the tracking aspects of the AMR/ETR missile range? I would like to add
to my knowledge of that subject which is mostly the National Geographic article about
1959.

Hi Art:
I mentioned my website to you in a different thread, dont know if you accessed this URL page below tho, as its buried in my personal page, but its a source of info. about early days downrange life with some pictures: http://spacecovers.com/jpers/zjp_emp_rca_etr_rangerat01.htm

you might also find this webpage of interest, about what life was like in the early days downrange: http://www.jerryblackerby.com/pioneering_downrange.htm

Joe: thanks for the article. I did visit your site and was thrown by the under construction note! I will keep my eye open for aticles. I knew about RCA but until I saw a Chuck Rogers image of a truck at LC-18A I never knew the full name was RCA
Service Company. There are several of us
amateur historians interested in the early
days so you do have an audience beyond the
range rats members for your site.
