I am lookin for the captains' names of the Prime Recovery Ships during Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Skylab and ASTP missions, and the captains' names of the Freedom & Liberty Star ship since the beginning of the Space Shuttle Program.

"Relics of Space" supplies a list of the prime recovery vessel for each of the missions through Skylab. There was a coffee table book out about 18 months ago on recovery that might provide a full list for vessels and captains (I have not gotten a hold of the book).

Good question about the Captains' names for the prime recovery ships. I've been looking for a complete listing myself. Unfortunately, "Splashdown", the book that Mr. Walsh references in the previous post, doesn't list the captains.

I've been able to piece together the following incomplete list:

MA-6 USS Randolph, Capt. Max Berns; USS Noa, don't know
MA-7 USS Intrepid, Capt. J.L. Abbot, Jr.; USS Pierce, don't know
MA-8 USS Kearsarge, Capt. E.P. Rankin
MA-9 USS Kearsarge, Capt. E.P. Rankin

GT-4 USS Wasp, Capt. J.W. Conger
GT-7/6 USS Wasp, Capt. Gordon E. Hartley
GT-9 USS Wasp, Capt. Gordon E. Hartley
GT-12 USS Wasp, Capt. Etheridge

Apollo 11 USS Hornet, Capt. Carl Seiberlich
Apollo 12 USS Hornet, Capt. Carl Seiberlich

Anyone else have any more?

Just saw an eBay lot that referenced the Apollo 17 PRS (Ticonderoga) Captain as Norman K. Green.

Cool! Thanks Hart!!! Anyone else?

This might shape up to become an Astrophile article. Anyone who contributes PRS Captain names will get credit...
