From KSL Television & Radio:
quote:
...when people go into space now, they may be unofficially evaluated on something called The Garn Scale.

Jake Garn: "For those who don't know, it's a Garn One, Garn Two, Garn Three. It's a measurement of how sick you are."

Basically, at Garn One, you feel pretty good. Garn Ten, you wish you were dead.

I heard someone say, I think at a lecture at NASM some years ago, that the crew "kept him velcroed to the wall" for the entire mission. Knowing how awful I've felt when I've gotten seasick, it must have seemed like a very long flight from his perspective....

I had the opportunity to meet Senator Garn at RocketTown in October 2004 (I think it was 2004) as part of the Evening with the Astronauts benefiting the Association of Space Explorers. Thanks to Robert and RocketTown for a wonderful event. He was very pleasant and was very willing to talk about his flight. Curiously he did not mention the old Garn scale.

All times are CT (US)
