Rita M. Rapp, who joined NASA as a member of the Space Task Group at Langley Field in 1961 and moved to the Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston the following year, was a pioneer in field of space food, nutrition, hygiene and sanitation. She died on July 12, 1989.

I came across a NASA issued photo and memorial. I thought it was very nice, and I didn't know anything about it. I hope to take my family down so see it.

In memory of Rita M. Rapp... who dedicated her last 25 years on Earth to the health, safety and comfort of flight crew members. Contributing to the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, Apollo-Soyuz, and Shuttle programs, Rita Rapp's creativity, dedication and perseverance revolutionized meal time aboard U.S. spacecraft, taking us from "cubes and tubes" to conventional meals and utensils.
