From The Huntsville Times:
quote:
Surviving World War II Allied attacks, working on space satellites and putting men on the moon punctuated the life of German rocket team member Dr. Ernst Lange.

But one of his personal passions was seeing America embrace the metric system instead of U.S. customary units, commonly known as English or standard units.

A native of Hamburg, Germany, Lange died June 17 at his home in Huntsville. He was 89. He worked for Dr. Wernher von Braun in labs at Peenemuende on guidance and control devices for the German V-2 rockets during World War II, and joined von Braun's U.S. Army rocket team in El Paso, Texas, in 1947.

Thanks for sharing, Robert.

From a documentation I have received from one of the Peenemündian oldtimers, Lange was part of the 3rd generation of German rocket pioneers, entering the US in the earl 50s. Thus, he probably has not joined von Braun in 1947, but later.

Hey Duke of URL ...

The metric system is far superior than the standard inch system. Wake up. Everyone knows this already. Why would you call it communist when all of the other major american-friendly countries are using it? Does this make Germany, england, france, Janpan and other countries communist??? I think not.

I think your thinking is stuck in the past. It is time to move beyond that. It is time to move to the future. It is time to give America more progress thru the Metric System.

If I'm doing science, I'll use meters-newton-seconds.

Otherwise, I'll stick to pounds, miles, furlongs, board-feet, cubic yards, slugs, chains, bushels, ounces, hogsheads, barrells, pecks, drams, acre-feet, hands, grains, cups, gauge, stones, tablespoons, reams, sections, gallons....

I can easily, and happily, convert between metric and English. But I prefer English for my everyday use. Other folks can have liters of wine and shoot 9mm europellet. I'll take my beer in pints and my bullets in .45

Oh, yeah. And I'll be behind a barricade before I'll swap 8.5 x 11 for freaking A4 paper.

The metric system doesn't make countries Communist, COMMIES make countries Communist. The metric system just helps, tovarich.
