Carmelo, Thanks for the interesting photo of Carr and Engle with the LRV mockup. If the date you gave, December 1969, is correct, then Engle had officially been the Apollo 14 backup LMP for about 4 months; his absence from the Apollo 17 crew would not be oficial for almost two years, after Apollo 15. Yet here he is pictured in the A7LB space suit (including a real or simulated PLSS backpack) used for the J-series (Apollo 15-17) missions, involved in evaluating the LRV, possibly for fit and function by a suited crewman. Such an "extracurricular" activity was probably not part of his Apollo 14 training, but was probably not uncommon among astronauts then and now when time permitted and their inputs were needed.------------------ John Charles Houston, Texas | |
