Very unfortunate news but thank you Maciej for bringing his passing to our attention. My condolences to his family and friends.

I have posted a brief summary of Strekalov's space accomplishments to the News section of cS.

This is very sad news. He was a Russian great. I have fond memories of him in the Imax film Mission to mir singing a russian song. 2003 and 2004 had been a terrible year for loosing great spaceflight people. I pray that 2005 will be much better. This is so sad.

I was greatly saddened by the news. My thoughts and prayers go out to friends and family. A true loss for space exploration and the Russian people on the loss of such a great hero.

I guess growing up in the U.S. I wasn't nearly exposed to cosmonauts as much as astronauts, but after reading about Strekalov and his extraordinary life and career I am in awe at his accomplishments.
The U.S. said goodbye to one of our heroes just this October and now, two months later, the Russians are doing the same.
