I am curious whether or not the astronauts do indeed sign autographs at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex when they take part in the Astronaut Encounter or Lunch with an Astronaut? |

I met Story Musgrave a few years ago after the Astronaut Encounter had just finished. My family and I had missed the encounter due to entering late and on walking in I saw Story. He was standing around with his assistant after everyone had left and I pointed him out to my daughters who were four and five at the time. They ran up and spoke to him asking him to sign their Disney autograph books, books previously signed by the Little Mermaid, Snow White and Minnie Mouse. He was more than happy to sign the books and talk with them, my wife and I for 5 or 10 minutes. A charming man. I don't know whether they sign normally, I have not seen other astronauts sign since then. In short, I think I just fell lucky. |

I have been to the encounter several time and when the guest astronaut finishes their talk they announce that they will pose for photos with you, but no autographs please. |

From my experience, it really all depends on the astronaut. I believe the policy is no autographs at the encounter, but if the astronaut chooses to sign, the employee won't fight him about it. Some will, some will not. Best bet is to wait after all of the photo op people move on and try to hit him up after the crowds subside. As for the lunch, yes signatures can be obtained there. Mostly, on a litho provided by the visitor complex. |

Just to add to what Jay said, yes, if you attend the lunch you do get an autographed photo, but they are pre-signed by the astronaut, have the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex logo on them and are given out by employees to each guest during the lunch. You may be able to get an extra autograph, especially if the astronaut stays for photo ops, but also as Jay said, it is totally up to the astronaut, including the Astronaut Encounter event. Some will. Some won't! |

I would like to get some feedback as to whether it is okay to ask for a signature at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex's Astronaut Encounter. Mike Mullane is going to be down there when I am there is July and I would to see if he would sign a print for me. Editor's note: Threads merged. |

The astronauts do not sign at the Encounter itself, but many (if not most) take part in scheduled signings in the visitor complex's gift shop. The autograph is often times free (if signing your own item), though that may depend on the astronaut. |

What's the Astronaut Encounter/general appearance autograph situation like at KSC?KSC's website mentions autographs being available at the retail locations but goes into no detail. Is a convention style meet and greet, pay base/completion fees, etc. type thing or is it just another way of saying "we sell astronaut signed items," like the prints they have on the store website? They talk a lot about the availability of photo ops, but don't speak at all to the autograph side of things. To put a finer point on what I'm asking, Jack Lousma's the current astronaut, according to the schedule. Let's say, hypothetically, I was also at KSC and wanted to get his autograph. - Is this possible?
- If this were possible, how and where would I do it?

Almost all of the Astronaut Encounter astronauts will sign one item for you at 4 p.m. or so on the second floor of the The Space Shop. Lithos are usually available for purchase, too. |

The astronauts at the Astronaut Encounter and Lunch with an Astronaut will pose for photos after those events with the staff keeping the line moving at a good pace. They will autograph photos and objects at the main gift shop (usually around 4 or 5 p.m.) for $10 per photo that they provide. Depending on astronaut, some will sign items brought in (I had Ed Gibson sign my Skylab Saturn V). If they have books, the gift shop will normally have them readily available for purchase so that the astronaut can sign. |

It's been a year or so since I've done the encounter, but my recollection is that they will sign only one of your personal items plus one or more of their photos they have for sale. |

I don't get there as much as a lot of you due to my distance from KSC, but I have had multiple things signed a couple of times at the gift shop after the afternoon encounter, by Mark Lee, Jon McBride and J.O. Creighton. However the line was minuscule, and they were being personalized to different names (One for me, others for grand kids), so I think the astronauts and the handler knew I wasn't stocking up to sell on eBay. If it's a long line I would imagine they wouldn't have been as accommodating. |
