Ladies and Gentlemen, it is with great pleasure that I can now announce the very first Cosmic Con event!

This is the first of many Astronaut and Astronomy events coming from Cosmic Con.

You now have the chance to meet:

  • Apollo 15's Al Worden
  • Skylab 3 and STS-3's Jack Lousma
  • Shuttle spacewalker Kathy Thornton
  • Shuttle mission specialist Don Thomas
  • Apollo 7's Walt Cunningham
  • Skylab 4's Jerry Carr
  • Skylab 4's Ed Gibson
  • As well as several guest speakers whom of which will cover a series of topics (astronomy, astrophotography, etc.)
The event is being held at the Hilton Manchester Airport hotel between 5th and 7th June 2015 (we're giving you plenty of notice). We have negotiated a rate of £79 B&B for Single rooms and £89 B&B for Twin/Double and Family rooms.

The hotel is situated on the airport grounds and is a few minutes walk from the train station — nice and easy. We have also negotiated free car parking AND a 20% food and beverage discount at the hotel for ALL of our guests, simply show your event ticket when buying/charging to your room.

Entry tickets cost as little as £10 AND children under the age of 13 get free entry. We do have other tickets available, all with different benefits (some of which are limited in number so get in there quickly).

The event will consist of lectures, photoshoots and a gala dinner. And you will of course be able to get hold of as many autographs as you like. The Gala Dinner Tickets are £70 (Please note that the VIP Tickets already include entry to the Gala Dinner, as well as seating on one of the astronaut tables).

Seats to the Lectures are numbered and are on a first come, first serve basis. You won't want to miss out on those!

You will be able to get hold of autographs from each of our astronauts. We will supply a variety of high quality photographs, but you are welcome to bring your own objects for them to sign.

There will also be a great selection of memorabilia for sale at the event. That includes space, astronomy and astrophotography gear.

And... WE ACCEPT PAYPAL.

Side note: We are currently waiting for the Promo Code from the Hilton so that you can book your hotel rooms. This will be announced on Friday (and a link added to the website for your convenience).

Nice and handy 40 minutes on the train — hate parking in Manchester!

Hope to see many more like this superb...

Great to see so many astronauts coming to the North West!

We don't have many of these events in the North West, but like you say, it is easy to get to Manchester no matter where in the country you are, so we're hoping for a big turnout.

Is Cosmic-Con going to have a Facebook and Twitter page to keep us in touch with the event?

Is it just me, or is there something a little bit worrying about that name?

The name is a play on "Comic-Con" — the world's largest multigenre entertainment and comic convention.

That made me laugh! I didn't even notice. Please pay no attention to the ''con'' part of the event name. It is as Robert says, a play on words

Just so everyone is aware, the photoshoots are NOT priced per person. We can get a maximum of 3 people (possibly 4) in each shot with our astronauts.

Update: Our astronauts have kindly offered to hold a Panel, so now we can offer not only individual lectures but a panel with Walt Cunningham, Ed Gibson and Jerry Carr, all on the same boat! We even have Astronomer Nick Howes moderating for us.

I know what you're thinking... ''swagger''.

He will be giving lectures, having photoshoots and signing autographs (as well as having 6 tables full of meteorites to stare at/buy).

The list keeps growing!

Thanks Steve! I'm surprised by just how many people have offered their assistance with the event. That said, I do already have a workforce in place but I do hope to see you (and everyone else) there!

If the event is a success then it will be a yearly thing, if not then it will be the first and last so all support is welcome!

Nice to know a few of my fellow cSers will be attending!

Don't forget to book your rooms though - you don't have to pay for the room until you leave and they can be cancelled anytime up until 4pm on the day of arrival.

I will be coming just a quick hop across the M62 for me. Nice to see you have got Gibson and Carr together, they are a great double act. Ed once introduced me to Jerry with 'Have you met my father....'

Have you considered inviting our very own Helen Sharman? I make this suggestion every year to Autographica but without success.

Please please use this as an opportunity of having a UK astronaut. Helen would be a wonderful addition to the guest list. Thank you.

I read somewhere Helen doesnt like doing shows and autographs? Or am I wrong?

Looking forward to this event... especially the variety astronomy, meteorites, and so on.

Helen did Autographica a few years back. Chatted to her for quite a while. Did we talk about space? No, we spent time bemoaning roadworks on the M1...

Ticket Changes:

Hello all. We have decided to change the VIP ticket so it now includes entry to all 3 astronaut lectures instead of the two free autographs from Ed and Jerry.

If anyone has purchased a VIP ticket already and would prefer the original arrangement then please let us know and we will honour it. Otherwise, enjoy the lectures!

MAJOR CHANGE: Due to a change in schedule, Walt Cunningham will no longer be attending Cosmic Con, but hopefully he will be at the next years event!

Al Worden will be taking his place. More to follow.

And I'd just spent a small fortune on a 1st edition of "The All American Boys." Never mind, these things happen, I'll just have to dig out my copy of "Falling To Earth" to get signed.

Is there any news on when tickets will be sent out?

I'm sorry! If it helps, we have Walt on queue for next year.

Tickets will be sent out 4 weeks prior to the event. But if they go missing or you forget them, we'll have a list of names and purchases so either way you're fine
