As much as we would all like to see Jack Schmitt at Autographica I think it unlikely.

Gene Cernan would certainly float my boat. I am quite sure, if the ladies at the ASF were to have a word he could be persuaded.

How about it Dave and Jason?

Sadly we have lost the first man to walk on the moon. Like it or not, the last man to walk on the moon would capture the imagination of the casual enthusiast and garner even more Kudos, publicity and ticket sales.... for the organisers.

Please can we have Helen Sharman back again?

Now that we know Eileen Collins does this kind of event, could Showmasters try to get the first woman shuttle pilot and commander?

I may be wrong — I have read (can't remember where) that Gene Cernan has more or less said no more trips across the pond? I could be wrong?

I would only go to the show to meet him so I can say that I have met the first and for now the last men to walk on the Moon.

The shuttle has never floated my boat as it were...

I'm so glad I was around to see the missions that led to the Moon landings during project Apollo! There will never be nothing like it — not even when the first human lands on Mars if this can be achieved given economics and the safety culture of today.

As I understand it Gene is not keen on travelling such a distance when he can get sizable fees for appearing on his own door step. And I don't blame the guy. He is not getting any younger.

But it is worth considering it would be only his second... and probably last Autographica.

I know of other Apollo astronauts who have said they would not come, only for Linn to work her magic and change their mind.

It is also worth noting the heightened interest Charlie Duke generated in Pontefract last October.

He has been to Pontefract previously and Autographica several times but the loss of Neil Armstrong has raised peoples appreciation of their achievements and with it the realisation that time is running out to meet a moonwalker.....let alone the last one to do so.

I suspect it would now be considerably more lucrative for Gene Cernan to appear in 2013 than it would have been in 2011.

How about Skylab astronauts, it would be nice to see Al Bean, Jack Lousma, Ed Gibson, Gerry Carr and Paul Weitz again plus it would be great to see Owen Garriott and Jo Kerwin for the first ime if possible and does Bill Pogue travel well or has he still issues with his legs!

This would be a joy to see considering its Skylabs anniversary and my own 40th anniversary of 40 orbits.

It's interesting to note that, on the Autographica forum, Jason suggests that they will attempt to bring over Apollo guests as long as possible, before concentrating on Shuttle astronauts.

Personally, I'd love to see Joe Engle attend...

Al is spot on. At the 2008 UK Space Conference at Charterhouse school Joe Engle was gracious to sign a few things, but wary of their commercial value...and definitely not for resale.

Shuttle astronauts:
  • Scott Altman (STS-90 STS-106 STS-109 STS-125). He was also the pilot in the film "Top Gun"!
  • Roberta Bonder (STS-42)
  • Anna Fisher (STS-51A)
Just a few hope you could just get one of them.

Anna Fisher still works for NASA; she cannot sign for a fee and therefore is not likely to attend an autograph show (of any type).

Booked holidays for this. Last year could only attend one day. This year will be getting the VIP pass as I did in 2011.

Looking forward to this — Autographica with all the astronauts. Last year was a brilliant experience.

I tend to agree. I'm not sure I was entirely on board when the Shuttle astronauts started to be added to the show line-ups as I preferred to see the emphasis placed on the MGA era but I have to say I think the Shuttle astronauts have really added an extra dimension to the show.

Until Barbara Morgan was announced I had no plans to attend Autographica. Now I am certain to attend. I would not have attended the last Autographica if it was not for the shuttle astronauts.

The MGA astronauts have been great guests but I have met most of them that do this type of show, some several times. The price of their autographs have gone beyond what I will pay for more than one or two autographs and some are beyond what I am prepared to pay for one.

Barbara Morgan was Christa McAuliffe’s back-up and could easily have been on the Challenger mission that killed seven astronauts. Despite this she hung around and flew the shuttle. I think she is a great guest and I for one am looking forward to meeting her.

I hope there will be more shuttle/ISS astronauts. They have great stories to tell. Not only of their astronaut experiences. At the last show I talked to Bob Springer about his experiences in the Marine Corps in Nam. Those stories were priceless.

My message to Showmasters is – please, please, more shuttle/ISS astronauts. As Paul23 said “the shuttle astronauts have added an extra dimension to the show”.

I've never used the pre-order service but I think the pre-orders are usually around £5 more expensive, I think there may be an additional £5 on top of that for any personalisations but I'm not 100% sure on that.

Either way I think the pre-order price is a pretty good guide as to the show price.

Just an observation here: I am thrilled to see the enthusiasm for the Skylab gents.

Personally, I feel Skylab is a truly underrated program. People forget the science gained for long term spaceflight was invaluable.

Russia has done a lot, no denigration there. but Skylab was more scientifically investigated and documented.

For example, the seed used to grow the tomato that went into the food supply, was documented prior to planting. The tomato (and I'm simply using a tomato as an example, I've no idea if tomatoes were on board or not) fully documented, inserted into the food supply and analyzed, well, lets just say after digestion etc.

And that's simply a small example.

While MGA is sexier, from a science standpoint Skylab is the leader and these boys deserve the enthusiasm shown here. Just my humble opinion.
