Frank Borman will be in Tucson in late August for a private signing with Astronaut Central. Order forms here.

I'm not sure about the inscription for "Earthrise" 16x20 with autographs from Jim Lovell and Frank Borman:

Is "And from the crew of Apollo 8, we close with good night, good luck, a Merry Christmas, and God bless all of you - all of you on the good Earth."

...too much for the picture and which color for the pen? Other examples? Thanks and cheers.

Here are a few of mine. Two are 16x20 and one litho. Obviously you are limited by the 10 word max for Col Borman but you might be able to paraphrase something. Fine gold always looks good and Rob and the team always take great care with this "difficult" pen.

Great pictures.

Okay, now I am because of text length not worry more. The 10 word length that is definitely? There are no exceptions? Should I try it?

I'm sure that Spacefest will correct me but I'd say don't try it. I have a similar problem and am seriously considering paying two autograph fees whilst only getting one signature to double the inscription length available. Alternatively, if you email them you may be able to negotiate a one-off price.

Trouble is, Col. Borman almost always makes a spelling or omission error when writing a long inscription. We can usually fix it, if it's a photo, but if someone else has signed it (as above), it's ruined. Borman always tells us he wished he'd been more brief.

You may have to use our photo, which we can replace.

Rob and Sally were discussing this today, but I don't know if anything was decided, other than it will cost plenty. Borman says he likes to inscribe, but WE live in the real world, with deadlines.

Kim, it would be good to know if longer inscriptions are an option (using your photos), especially for these Apollo 8 crewmen. It can be difficult to express the magnitude of this flight with 10 words or less.

Actually, I have a couple of astronaut inscribed pictures with spelling errors (not Col. Borman) and I view them as more individual. Is that weird?

Yes. Yes it is.

But it's okay -- we understand.

Okay, we spoke with Col. Borman today, and he is willing to do longer inscriptions, but with some limitations. We updated the first page of the rules and fees on our website, so you can see details there.

In brief, 15 word limit on customer-supplied items, and 35 word limit on unsigned photos supplied by us.

Borman and Lovell are NOT signing on the same day, so if you are having both sign something, and the second one makes a mistake, we will not be able to simply replace the photo, because the first one will not be here to resign it.

If you already sent a Borman order to us and want to change it, please email me.

I'll explain more, shortly.

To expand on what Spacefest wrote earlier, if an astronaut makes an error on our unsigned photo, we can replace it, or try to erase the error. But, if it's on your item, or something already signed by others, we can not replace it, and may not be able to erase without damage. Also, each astronaut is in our office for only a limited time, and we need to get several hundred items signed within that time. Redoing long inscriptions because of mistakes quickly eats up time, and the astronauts often cannot stay late or come back the next day to finish up. We imposed the word limits to reduce these risks.

Actually, Borman did not say he likes to inscribe, but he will do it. In fact, at a signing several years ago, after writing his umpteenth 30-word sign-off quote, while trying to shake out his cramped and sore signing hand, he quipped "I wish I'd just said 'Good night'."

So there you have it. Any questions? Here is a short candid video we made of his first visit, in 2005. Rob is the other guy.

It is possible that Frank Borman first sign (with inscription) the picture (from you) and then Jim Lovell?

Both men have very busy schedules (despite being "retired"), and we must work around their time commitments. Their current schedules have worked out so that Lovell will come first. It's possible, like last year, that their schedules will change for reasons beyond our control.

Keep in mind that Lovell can also make mistakes, so having Borman come first does not completely eliminate the risk.

I don't want to sound negative in my posts, but we just want our customers to be aware of the risks, and happy with the results.

Well NOW they're switching, and BORMAN's coming first, Lovell after.
