I saw on Astronaut Central's website that Jim Lovell is doing a signing this August. Do they have a price list or any other information on this yet? I have a WSS lithograph I want to get signed and inscribed to Tyler. How much would it cost me? |

No guarantee for this time but Lovell has been $175 for awhile now and simple personalizations are usually free at Novaspace signings. |

I am excited about this signing. Thank you NovaSpace!I am going to have an Earthrise 16x20 photo, already signed by Borman that I recently purchased from NovaSpace, signed by Jim Lovell. Any suggestions or opinions on personalizations and what would be cool to have him inscribe? I was thinking, after searching past posts from previous Lovell signings, on "Christmas Eve, 1968" with signature, mission and CMP. Not sure of placement of inscription. (Above or below signature and mission?) I would appreciate and love to see scans or photos of your Lovell signed Earthrise. Feel free to email or post so that I could get an idea of how it looks. I would really appreciate your suggestions and photos of what you have to help me decide. Thank you in advance. |

Sigh. That means I'm gonna pay almost as much for a 9-word inscription (if I do it) as I will for the autograph. Oh well. |

I guess you have to take into account that in the time it takes to write out a nine word inscription he could have signed his name several times over. |

Yeah, I know I'm just going to have to accept this and either pay the money or not do it. But he wasn't charging that much for inscriptions last year. Should have done it then. |

Jeff, there is a special price of $75 for "Houston, we have a ..." according to the website, if this was the inscription you were seeking.There is also a 5% early bird discount for items received by Ju;y 10. Also, the base price does apply to philatelic covers, according to Sally Poor in an e-mail in response to my query. (Unless the cover is a crew completion). |

David, the item I want to have signed is a photo of the damaged service module that I already had signed by Fred Haise at Spacefest IV. I had Haise write what he said in reaction to seeing the damage ("Man, that's unbelievable!"). I've been thinking ever since that I needed to have Lovell sign what he said upon seeing the damage: "And there's a whole side of that spacecraft missing!" I think I would regret it if I got him to write anything else just to get a discount.So, the new pricing wasn't in my budget, but I'll have to try to make it happen. |

I have a 16x20 Earthrise with Borman's full Genesis quote on it and an 8x10 with a partial Borman quote. Any suggestions as to a Lovell inscription or to leave alone?For what it's worth, the full Lovell inscription would run to $1,400! |

I think that almost every time an item is signed by one Apollo crew member and can't be completed (as is the case with Apollo 8, with Anders not signing) you should leave it alone instead of having a second crew member sign it. |

But it doesn't stop people getting damaged Apollo 13 CM prints inscribed by Haise and Lovell! I think that principle doesn't apply in the case of the iconic missions like 8, 11 and 13, but only if the inscription looks "balanced" in terms of length and context. |

Collecting is about having fun. Within the bounds of what you can afford do what floats your boat. I personally like having as many signatures as I can get, knowing that for many of the Apollo missions there is now no hope of completion. |

I also am of the opinion that is best to have just one sign vs. two of a crew of three if can never get the third to sign. To me, two out of three leaves an appearance of incompletion.A nice item with one signature is fine. Just my thought. Having said that, I have several with two and will never be able to get the third. |

While I understand the reason for the high fees, I feel that they are making this experience too expensive for the average collector. I have better things to do with my money, even though my heart would love to! |

I also feel the autograph fees are at the point of diminishing returns. It gets ever more expensive and with the economy, at some point we just have to draw back. It isn't a reflection of how much most would like to have it, it has just gotten far too expensive. I understand at the Apollo guys age, travel and such is a challenge, so I also see there side. Thank goodness I have most of the autographs I want and have met most astronauts I most admire. |

I've been frantically looking for the quote by Jim Lovell following his Gemini 7 flight. He said something about being on a 2 week honeymoon with Borman. I know I've read the quote in one of my books, but I'm not sure which one.Does anyone remember the quote, or can anyone remember what book its in? The reason I'm looking is I want Lovell to write the quote as an inscription on a photo I'm getting signed next month. Thanks for your help. |

It seems I spoke too soon... Jim Lovell's office called and postponed the signing until later in August.Jim underwent a scheduled procedure recently, and has been advised not to fly. Just a precaution. We're extending the order deadline until August 17. |

I am thinking of having Lovell sign the Apollo 8 launch, NASA image #S68-56050 - but that same image is also a lithograph (not sure from where) - but the litho image is reversed (mirrored). My question is, does the reversing of the image on the litho image make it bad for signing? Does it make it less valuable because the image is reversed (whether signed or unsigned), or is it like the upsidedown plane stamp - more of a rarity? That image is one of my favorite launch images from any mission either way I suppose. |

Just had a rush of disappointment, I was on the Astronaut Central's website and saw the deadline for Lovell's signing was July 20. I thought I saw different on here cS. Feeling better now. Here's a question for you all. The Earthrise picture, without getting too technical, isn't the correct view of it the moon to the right of the Earth? As opposed to the moon on the bottom. |

In my conversations with astronauts about the proper orientation I have been told that their feet were toward the moon, heads away - just like flying in a plane - so the orientation as viewed by the astronauts is the earth rising over the horizon - with orientation of north as up, then earth is on the left. |
