San Diego Air & Space Museum event:
Sally Ride, America's First Woman In Space - Talk & Book Signing

Join us for a talk and book signing by Dr. Sally Ride, America's First Woman In Space, as she leads you through her personal exploration of our fragile home planet.

Event Information:
Mission: Planet Earth
Talk and book signing by
Sally Ride, America's First Woman In Space
June 13th , 2009 1:00 p.m.
San Diego Air & Space Museum - Education Center
Free with paid museum admission

Sally Ride's new book Mission: Planet Earth introduces young people to the changes taking place in Earth's climate. Beginning with her unique, astronaut's-eye view of Earth's fragile atmosphere, Mission: Planet Earth describes how climate systems shape our world, and how a disruption in one part of the system can spread across the entire planet. Drawing on the latest scientific research, illustrated with stunning photographs, the book is a celebration of Earth's natural complexity and call to action for a new generation.

The companion book, Mission: Save the Planet, is a rousing guide packed with practical things to do to lessen your impact on Earth, such as conserving energy at home, at school, and around town.

Both of these books, and other books written by Dr. Ride will be available for purchase. Only books sold at this event will be signed.

Thank you to those who came to the Sally Ride talk and book signing here at the museum today. Sally gave an unusually long talk and Q+A, with some really interesting questions from very young kids about the Ares program plans -- they know their stuff! The talk was videoed and we plan to put it online soon.

We had a great signing event afterwards...

And even had a second “Sally Ride” show up (great flight suit)!

Following Francis’s introduction (ends at about 3:15 in), here is Dr. Ride’s entire talk and Q+A – most of which focused on her space shuttle experiences:

I just got home to Illinois after a week in San Diego. I had been planning on taking my mother to California this summer, but after reading Francis' post about Sally Ride, I "encouraged" my mother to move up our travel plans.

Dr. Ride gave an entertaining and enjoyable talk. As a science teacher myself, I was thrilled to see so many young girls in attendance. Dr. Ride happily answered questions and signed copies of her book.

I'd also like to thank Francis personally for posting the event, and even more so for recognizing me! The Air and Space Museum in San Diego is a must see!

Thanks for the feedback! It was great to see you there, and I'm still so impressed that you moved your vacation just to come to this event!
