The library is charging $14 for general admission to the talk. The book is sold separately. Presumably, if all you want is a signed book and have no interest in the talk, you can order from the shop, as noted. |

At this point, there are no plans for collectSPACE to host a signing.A number of additional book signings in California, Florida and New York have been added to the Sightings calendar. Also, cS member Dwight Daugherty offers the following tip: I spoke with the Smithsonian. They said they would accept orders and ship the autographed book upon signing. You can call (202) 357-1387 and get on a list for when the book actually arrives. You will not be charged until then. The lady said they will call you back when the book actually arrives and get credit card info then and make arrangements to ship the signed book. |

Has anyone had any luck pre-ordering a signed book from one of the signings in June? I contacted a couple of places, but haven't heard back yet. |

On July 25, the USS Hornet Museum will feature Buzz Aldrin at its SPLASHDOWN 2009 event. Buzz will give a public speech, followed by a book signing of Magnificent Desolation, forty years and a day after the splashdown of the first moon landing mission.The Hornet Museum is located in the SF Bay Area. I asked the Fox Bookshop in Philadelphia (mfox@foxbookshop.com) and had no problem to pre-order a signed copy. |

What a disappointment! I see Aldrin's booksigning time has been changed from 9:30am to 3pm on July 16 at KSC. Well, there goes my chance to have him sign my copy of Magnificent Desolation 'exactly' 40 years after the launch of Apollo 11! |

I just returned home from Buzz's book signing at Barnes and Noble, 150 East 86th St. NYC. He was in good spirts, the jokes and stories I've heard before. But it was good to see him again. Lois was there also. |

I would estimate last night's crowd at 250+. I had no trouble getting my book personalized. Of course it didn't hurt that he recognized me, much to the annoyance of the B&N staff who wanted to move the line along. |

Just returned from Buzz Aldrin's book signing this evening in Huntington, Long Island (NY).The store was PACKED... estimates were about 1000 people in attendance. Luckily the store handed out cards during the day to organize the crowds waiting to get their book(s) signed. Before signing, Aldrin was "interviewed" by a Cradle of Aviation representative, followed by a few questions from the audience. Great to meet one of the icons of our space program. |

You can try to contact The Book Revue in Huntington, NY. I called them and they have a few signed copies available for $28, the phone #is 631-271-1442. I was just at his book signing this week and was surprised how many people showed up (>500). Unfortunately he showed up 50 mins. late and his talk was cut short, but it was a great experience. |

Buzz did a book signing Saturday in Los Angeles at Barnes and Noble Bookstore. He only signed his book only. One note, he did say to someone in line he would sign anything he wrote (books) in the past at his book signings, saw him do this for someone in line today with his older books he wrote.There's another book signing Sunday, June 28th in Southern Calif. I think by the Disneyland area. |

Just saw an ad that Buzz will be at Mall of America on Saturday, July 11, to sign. Presented by Barnes & Noble. The ad says that Buzz will sign any of the books he has written, and please no memorabilia, but it doesn't say anything about fees.If any cS'ers are planning on going, I'd be happy to meet up with you. I don't know of any other in the Minneapolis area. |

There's no fees except buying the book, $27 for each book, two books are $59 with taxes. Hope this helps... |

For anyone considering the Buzz Aldrin signing at Mall of America, I found a PDF with some rules. It was kind of buried on the MoA website, so I thought posting might help. I shaved it down to be more readable, but here's the highlights: - You must have a Mall of America wristband in order to enter the autograph line. A limited number of wristbands will be given away in the Best Buy Rotunda starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 11.
- Buzz Aldrin will be signing copies of all of his books. You must present your book to receive a wristband. Copies of Aldrin's new book "Magnificent Desolation: The Long Journey Home from the Moon" and his most recent book "Look to the Stars" will be available for sale in the Best Buy Rotunda starting at 1 p.m.
- Each person in your party must be present to receive a wristband.
- Buzz Aldrin will not sign any Memorabilia.
- No personalization is allowed.
- No photos will be taken on stage.
- A special needs signing area will be available for guests.
I'm surely wondering what the turnout will be like! |

"Buzz Aldrin will be signing copies of all of his books."Assuming this policy applies to all of his signings, do you think this means that Buzz will sign a copy of "First on the Moon" already signed by Michael Collins? Previously, Buzz wanted $500 to sign the "multi-signed" item. |

Previous experience is not a guarantee of future results, but in the past Aldrin has been OK with such multi-signings (OF BOOKS) at his book signings, at least the ones I've been at. |

On June 25, Buzz posted the following on his twitter page: I'll only be signing Magnificent Desolation and my children's book, Look to the Stars. sorry folks, nothing else. Don't know if that applies to all signings, or if it was just meant to deter people from bringing photos, etc.? |

At the Mall of America signing in Bloomington, MN on July 11, the Barnes and Noble staff initially thought he would only sign the two new books when I got in line. But before the signing started, it was announced that he would sign copies of all of the books that he had authored. He freely signed my copy of Return to Earth without hesitation. And I saw him sign copies of Men From Earth and The Return, along with his other childrens book from a couple years ago. (I didn't see anyone with copies of his other books, but presumably he signed those too.) Also, I don't know if he was presented with any copies of First on the Moon already signed by Armstrong and/or Collins, however. I'm sure he reserved the right to refuse to sign anything he didn't want to sign. So it appears the rules for signing may vary depending on the event. |

I was able to attend Buzz's signing at the Sanford/Orlando Books-a-million store yesterday and it was very good. It looked to be a crowd of about 350-400 people but it seemed some were there just to take a picture of Buzz. The event was set to begin at 4:00 PM but he arrived about 35 minutes late and gave a short 10 minute talk before sitting down to begin signing. He did "rap" a few line and apologized that Snoop Dog couldn't be there today. Let's just hope he doesn't start wearing his pants down low and reveal his boxers! |

Buzz must be traveling via transporter device. I see on the calendar that on July 24 he is appearing the Splashdown celebration in Houston at 18:30 CDT. Then, just 150 minutes after the start of that event he's busily signing away in Santa Barbara at 19:00 PDT. It's simply incredible! I attended the Buzz signing at KSC yesterday in conjunction with the 40th Anniversary of Apollo 11. Huge crowd at the complex all day.Buzz's signing was held in the Astronaut Encounter Theater and drew a pretty large line. KSC's Gift Shop ran out of his books fairly early in the day which created a bottleneck in the autograph line (along with a central Florida summer thunderstorm). They ended up selling books from an emergency shipment at the signing and then started doing promisary orders for signed books for people deep in the line with no items. Buzz was friendly, allowing quick photo posing at his table. A nice perk for those that bought the books early was being pulled out of line and directly brought in for signatures. Though it was advertised he would only sign "Magnificent Desolation" he did allow one each of his other books if you asked him directly, not the event handlers. Though a little crazy from the crowd it was neat to get the books signed. As an added bonus, Jon McBride and Al Worden both signed for free in the KSC Gift Shop after Buzz's session. |

I happened to be in Minneapolis for the Mall of America signing (pure coincidence, I took the family up from Chicago to see a White Sox/Twins game) and he signed any book he wrote. No personalizations or added inscriptions. He was very friendly, and as I mentioned that I was sad not to get a place at the Glenn lecture, he said "Oh..yeah...I still don't know what I'm going to say". He shook my hand and I was on my way. I thought his talk beforehand was quite interesting as well. |

I missed this thread about ordering the signed Buzz Aldrin Book "Magnificent Desolation" from the Smithsonian. Is there any possibility I can still buy one autographed from them? Astronauts, especially moonwalkers, never come to North Carolina. If not, could it be bought autographed anywhere else? |

If you are prepared to pay more than the face value, run a search on eBay for 'Magnificent Desolation' and you will currently find 33 different listings. Given that you have to exercise the usual caution when buying on eBay, there are some credible offers with a variety of claimed provenance. Ask for opinions from cS members. |

I've pre-ordered a copy of Look to the Stars from the signing in August at Chaucer's Books. They were very helpful and will, in my case at least, ship to the UK. |

Thanks Im5eagle, purchased an autographed "Magnificent Desolation" off eBay yesterday for $59.00 free shipping. I think this was a pretty good deal. Bonus - comes with a photo of Buzz Aldrin signing the book, I think in California. Can't wait to get it and add it to my library of signed books. |

Buzz was at a sold-out Free Library of Philadelphia last night. We ordered tix early, and was seated in the main auditorium. An overflow crowd was set up in the lobby, watching via video.Was it me or did Buzz somehow direct most questions to his ideas on how to bypass the moon and go directly to Mars? Anything similar at other locations? We decided to bypass the autograph line. The forum was done as an interview, and that lasted for half and hour, from 19.30 to 20.00. Buzz then took questions from the audience for another half hour, at which point some people decided to queue up for his autograph. We stayed, at which point the line was down a hall in the upstairs lobby and literally out the door, wrapped around itself. We had an early morning so we decided not to stay. They announced that he would be signing his books, no photos, memorabilia or books with his photo in it (their words.) I think it would have been better had the people, as they arrived, been given a wristband for their position in the autograph line, had they wanted one. It doesn't seem right that those who got tickets to see Buzz in person (that is, not by watching on screen) would have to leave part of his talk early to try and get an autograph (since the overflow people had the advantage of being in the lobby to begin with.) --The above is just some constructive criticism. Had I really wanted an autographed book, I would have gone to one of the NY signings instead of the lecture. If there's anybody else who went last night, I'm curious as to whether or not Buzz signed for everyone. Since he wasn't personalizing, I think they could have gotten everybody thru in two hours, but that may be a wide optimism. |
