Well SOMEONE had to start a thread like this didn't they ! It might as well be me. Without resorting to a fairyland wish list, I'd like to see the following guests visit our damp shores. Alan Bean. Alexei Leonov. Wally Schirra. Rusty Schweickart. Bruce McCandless. I confess I'm not to up to date with cosmonauts so don't really know who to suggest apart from Alexei. Just my 2p........Adam |

My collection of moonpans is crying out for Mike Collins & Ken Mattingly (plus the obvious fantasy guest) to make it a full set of 11-17 survivors. Maybe more realistic is Alan Bean, and anybody else I haven't met at the last two Autographicas. |

It is interesting to observe that no one's wish list thus far has included even one shuttle astronaut, other than the Apollo carryovers. Is that because there is no interest in meeting the likes of Crippen, Ride or Musgrave, or is it that they are just forgotten? Do autograph collectors' interests end with the flight of the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project? |

As a youngster I was lucky enough to live near the cape and see most of the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo launches. For years I wanted to meet these pioneers of early space exploration. I liked the shuttle astronauts, but never gave them the same respect. That is until I moved to Houston and had the opportunity to meet many of the shuttle astronauts. I had dinner with Cady Coleman at the Cosmic Rendezvous and was embarrassed that I knew very little about the shuttle. Since then I've met a number of shuttle astronauts and read many books and am equally impressed. They also have the "right stuff". Yes I enjoy meeting the early astro's but I'll go out of my way any day to meet a shuttle astronaut. They are usually easy to talk to and have many great stories (no pun intended Dr. Musgrave). Robert, please keep bringing the shuttle astro's to RocketTown; I'll be there (with my wallet of course)! In my last post I did not mention the names of the Challenger and Columbia astronauts on my dream list, but certainly they were intended in the "and so on" comment. |

Robert- I agree with MCroft04,the Shuttle Astronauts have not been forgotten by me. Having met many of these guys at the astro- encounter in KSC- listen to them speak about their adventures, their EVAs,in general I think Shuttle astros have an equal amount of stories to tell, some have the pictures which shows what this mast universe holds. reading some of their bios-one has a feeling of being up there with them. The Apollo Guys came after the Mercury 7, they walked on the moon, whereas the shuttle guys walked in space, and beyond. If you can get some of these shuttle astros to an Autograph show- good luck to you. The talk about you know who we had- may be a go-- Nice to meet you and the young lad- hope his journey to Germany went ok. Regards from Brenda and Ted. ps- Looks like you got back ok. |

In an ideal world I'd prefer to collect all flown and unflown astronauts but my budget doesn't stretch that far. I am attempting to collect autographs of up to and including the Group 7 astronauts and don't believe that Crippen, Ride and Musgrave would do a commercial signing such as an autograph show (though would be happy to be proved wrong). With Ride and Musgrave being on the list of astronaut signers for next years Astronaut Autograph Club http://www.astronautscholarship.org/aac.html along with fellow Shuttle astronauts Bruce McCandless, Joe Allen and Kathryn Sullivan at least collectors have the chance to get a genuine autograph from some fairly reluctant signers. |

The one and only reason I have omitted shuttle astro's from my list is because I have never heard of them appearing at autograph shows (other than McCandless and Searfoss) Should they be convinced to appear I'd love to see such names as Musgrave, Allen, Crippen, Engle and co. Adam |

Has Glenn ever charged anyone for his autograph (other than through charity things like the Astronaut Autograph Club)? I don't think he has...but I could be wrong. |

The question was asked, by Robert,"Why no Shuttle astronauts in the lists?". The answer, for me anyway, is "Tempus fugit". Neither I, nor the early astronauts/cosmonauts are getting any younger! Barring accidents, the Shuttle crews will be around for a few more years yet, so there should be, hopefully, more chances to meet them in future years. |
