Regency-Superior proudly presents its Space and Autographs Auction, October 3, 2013. This auction will be held live on the internet beginning at 10am (Pacific Time). We're delighted to be able to offer unusual and rare Space & Collectibles material now available online for viewing and bidding. The Manned Space Program offers much, including a Lake Champlain Prime Recovery Ship cover from Alan Shepard's Mercury mission (Lot 51). Our Gemini section includes an early Titan 1 Rocket Flight Certified Gearbox & Solenoid (Lot 67), along with many great autographed items from Grissom, White and others. Apollo, as always, has many strong items, including a Saturn I S-IV Second Stage Fuel Tank Vent & Relief Valve among other parts, plus major autographed items starting with an Apollo 1 (Grissom, White & Chaffee) signed glossy color photo (Lot 149), an Apollo 11 Armstrong and complete crew signed items. A Flown flag & Flown patch from Apollo 14 are also present (Lots 209 & 210). In the Shuttle program, we have a nice set of matching covers, each signed individually by the 1986 Challenger crew, shortly before it exploded (Lot 263). The Soviet program section contains many better autographs, including a nice Gagarin document (Lot 347), and much more. Better cover collections and many lots of interesting photos are also present. In the Models section is a handmade wooden model of a Rocketdyne AR2-3 rocket engine that was used in the three NF-104A class supersonic aerospace trainers (Lot 384). Another model is a 1967 Soviet Venera-4 1:10 scale, of museum quality, made in the same plant that made the actual spacecraft (Lot 385). Viewing and live bidding are available 24/7 at RegencySuperior.com. For specific questions regarding this sale, contact Alan Lipkin at alipkin@RegencySuperior.com |

Unlikely item 94 had anything to do with the Gemini Program since they were packaged in 1967. |

Looks to me like Lot # 48, Alan Shepard signed launch cover, is actually a secretarial signed cover. |

I was curious as to what cS members thought about this stamp sheet signed by the Apollo 11 crew and ten other astronauts. It's already at $2400, but frankly most of the signatures (including the Apollo 11 crew) do not look great to me. |

I have been wanting to get hold of a flown flight suit for a while now but I'm not too sure on the value of them - can anyone tell me if this one for $800-$1000 is good value or can I get one cheaper elsewhere? |

Rich, I would stay very far away from this suit. I highly doubt it is flown. Please reference this cS thread. |

Thank you for the information on the cS thread. Dodged a bullet on that one! |

Hmm, I only bid on 2 items, but coincidentally I happened to win them both with my exact "Max Bid" prices. If I'm that good at predicting the winning prices I should quit my software job and take up a new profession. On the other hand maybe the system just beat me (operator error...). |

From what I can tell, "max bids" are not treated like proxy bids (which are incrementally increased against other bidders until either the item is won or the maximum is reached). From past experience, it appears that Regency just runs the bidding up to the maximum amount submitted, regardless of whether there is a counter-bidder or not.Personally, I feel they do a poor job explaining how their system operates and they capitalize on any misunderstanding that bidders might have. |

For what it is worth, I won my targeted lot well below my max bid. |

For the last several years I no longer place significant max bids with R-S as I noticed that my max bids had a habit of becoming what I bought the lot for... |

I've had both happen, having won some bids at the opening price way below my max bid, and a couple of times higher than my initial "max" bid, after an online bidding war. I find that when there is no live bidding, I tend to get it for less than my max, but when there is live bidding, it adds to the feeding frenzy atmosphere. |

Yeah, like the $2300 paid for the Apollo 8 Flight Plan! |

I'm glad to say I wasn't in that feeding frenzy! What about the NASA transparencies that went for thousands? What can one do with 4x5 transparencies? (Okay, I know, print them, but hundreds to thousands of them?) |

Dude... my scanner is just getting warmed up!I personally inspected these transparencies at the Regency office in St. Louis. All are from NASA HQ. Speaking as someone with some knowledge of NASA photo history, a large percentage of the HQ color releases were made available in this 4x5 format only. Many of the images are not common. J.L. I managed to get hold of the the group of 7 Carpenter Autographs (inc. 5 covers) - absolutely beautiful. I only needed one cover for my collection, so it was a bit of overkill. But I can't complain at that price. |

I was lucky enough to get lot 264 which included autographs of 5 of the 7 STS-51L crew plus other photos and a special magazine for $425 (which was my maximum bid) plus buyers premium. It just arrived and is a great addition to my STS-51L collection. |
