The U.S. Space & Rocket Center (USSRC) will host an eBay fundraiser during the week prior to its silent auction at the Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction Ceremony on June 15, 2012. Select items will be placed on eBay beginning at 9 p.m. CDT on Friday, June 8 and ending at 9 p.m. CDT on Friday, June 15, during the Hall of Fame Dinner in the Saturn V Hall of the Davidson Center for Space Exploration. All funds raised will go directly to the USSRC Foundation Scholarship program and will help send children to Space Camp or Aviation Challenge.
There will be more than 90 items available to bid on during the auction due to the tremendous support from over 70 individuals, companies and charitable partners who have generously donated items to the event. Several unique pieces pertaining to the rich tradition and history of Space Camp and space exploration will be available including items from astronauts, members of NASA and others who are alumni and friends of the USSRC. Other auction items include those related to travel, arts, leisure, health and beauty, television and movies, dining, sports, jewelry, music, wine and more.
The items posted on eBay at USSRC_Foundation will include a Right Stuff Field Geologist print from Alan Bean that is signed by the Apollo 12 astronauts, a First-Aid Kit signed by Astronaut Fred Haise, an Astronaut Barbie signed by Jan Davis, a Skylab I insignia signed by Astronaut Paul Weitz, a framed checklist signed by Astronaut Robert "Hoot" Gibson, an Omega Speed Master watch, a football signed by Joe Namath, a script signed by the cast of A Smile as Big As The Moon along with the book signed by John Corbett and Mike Kersjes, a tour of Bryant Denny Stadium and a University of Alabama football, a painting from artist Paul Calle, and the book Falling to Earth signed by Astronaut Al Worden and author Francis French.
Many family-friendly activities are scheduled for the 30th Anniversary and Hall of Fame Celebration, including acknowledgement of the 600,000th Space Camp trainee who is scheduled to attend during that week. The 2012 Space Camp Hall of Fame inductees are U.S. Navy Captain (Ret.) Robert L. "Hoot" Gibson, five-time Shuttle astronaut, Stephanie Abrams from The Weather Channel, Liz Warren, Ph.D., International Space Station Physiologist and Ed Van Cise, NASA Flight Director.
