Lunar Legacies Space Memorabilia Auction XII at SpaceFest

Auction lots are beginning to appear on the Lunar Legacies website for the June 2, 2012 internet and live auction at this year's Spacefest in Tucson, Arizona.

Lots for this auction are now appearing on the site for preview purposes only, and the auction will be uploaded to Proxibid on or about May 15th for pre-bidding. I expect about 400 to 500 great lots as usual and hope to see you there.

Although the auction will be held live at Spacefest, there will be no change in the format in that all lots can be bid on in real time through the internet as before. Mail-in bid will also be accepted.

Anyone wishing to consign items to the June 2nd auction, please contact me. Thanks!

Registration is now open for the auction the June 2 auction. Please go to ProxiBid to create an account if you don't already have one. The catalog will appear in a week or so.

However, auction lots can be viewed on the Lunar Legacies' website for the auction at Spacefest in Tucson, Arizona. Even though I am holding it live in Tucson, it will be the same as all the other auctions — online in real time to anyone wishing to bid via internet.

Auction lots appear on the lunarlegacies.com for previewing purposes only, and the auction will be uploaded to Proxibid on or about May 15 or 16 for pre-bidding. I expect about 450-500 lots as usual and hope to see you there.

Donnis, Will any of the lots be physically at Spacefest for inspection? My guess is that the hardware won't be, but how about the flat, paper-based material?

Donnis (and other potential bidders) - just to advise that the signatures for "Apollo 11 Crew-Signed Houston Rotary Club Banner", Lot #281, are believed to be secretarials.

I'd won this auction lot elsewhere and subsequently had the sale cancelled (without issue) after the cS community experts helped sort out why the signatures didn't look quite 'right'.

See here for further background.

Thanks for the heads up — I did not realize it was in the Goldberg auction previously. The signatures looked a little "hurried" for sure, but the lady who consigned it (local Cocoa Beach woman) was the wife of the man the Mayor gave it to, so very good provenance. She had other pictures of the Mayor with her husband, so they were good friends, so I didn't doubt it. In any case, the item has been removed from the auction. Thanks again.

To answer another question, I will not be bringing any of the items to Arizona, although I wish I could. There are 512 items in 13 big boxes in a safe location, and it would be a security and logistics nightmare to move it all 2000+ miles and then back. Damage to the items could occur as well in doing this.

I've taken the best pictures I can and would be glad to take more if requested. Please email me at lunarlegacies@gmail.com if you have any questions. Thanks.

Lunar Legacies Auction XII Space Memorabilia Auction
Starts at 9:00 AM PST & MST June 2, 2012 (12:00 Noon EST)

Anyone wishing to submit mail-in bids for the live internet space auction at Space Fest on June 2nd, or get set-up on the phone list, please submit your bids to lunarlegacies@gmail.com by Friday June 1st. The bids must be confirmed by me as received to be added to the list.

Also, if you are planning to attend the auction in person at Space Fest, please register with Proxibid beforehand to be assigned a bid card number. It is not 100% necessary, but that will allow you to avoid registration at the auction, and it's much easier on us. If you wish to simply register at the auction, a bid card number will be assigned to you there.

To pre-register, please follow this link. Once there, simply click on the "Want to Participate" link directly below the "Start Bidding" button. You will either go directly to the auction catalog, or will be prompted to sign-in and/or register if necessary.

Thanks and hope to see many of you there!

Maybe a copy or original? Apollo 11 Flight Plan, Final Lot #270
An original Apollo 11 Final Flight Plan dated July 1, 1969 with several hundred pages of timelines, checklists and information, etc.

Some important messages below. The 12th Lunar Legacies Space Memorabilia auction is only 4 days away and it will be held live at Spacefest in Tucson, AZ. It will start promptly at 9 a.m. PST (12 noon EST). Tucson is not on daylight savings time it seems so their time matches Pacific Standard Time.

Deadline for mail and phones bids is Friday night. Please email the to me at lunarlegacies@gmail.com.

For those of you who had difficulty logging on to Proxibid last auction, please test your connection beforehand. Proxibid runs live auctions 24/7, so please try to enter one of those. Simply go to their home page (proxibid.com), find the "Browse By" pull down heading and click "Today’s Auctions," and a list will appear for you to choose any one of them. You don't even have to log in to do this.

For those of you who are new to Proxibid, please go to java.com to download the latest version — you will need it, and it's free. Then follow the testing steps above.

Also, if you plan to bid live at Spacefest during the auction, please pre-register on Proxibid to obtain a bid card number. There will be registration at the auction starting at 7:30 a.m. for those of you who need a bid card number, but it's easier to do it online. Simply go to proxibid.com/lunarlegacies then click on the "Want to Participate" link to do this.

Thanks and hope to see you there!

Lot 161, the "S-1B or Saturn V Large S-IVB Panel Section", has got to be the largest flight-ready piece of spacecraft ever at auction. If somebody actually has room for it, how cool would it look next to some big photographic prints of a whole Saturn lifting off, then of that section zoomed in.

I also find Lot 278 interesting. It's apparently Buzz Aldrin's own copy of the Apollo 11 flight plan Revision A - it was found inside the simulator area after the mission, and it has his name written on it. But it's still bound in string as delivered, and unused! Hope there wasn't anything too important in there. "Dang, I was supposed to take a few photos of Neil!"

This auction looks like another great one by Lunar Legacies.

Any feedback from the floor?

I was a bit surprised to win a couple of items that I left absentee bids on, expecting to be way outbid. Aside from the $2600 Grissom signed launch photo prices seemed to be on the low side (some bargain signatures and flight plans) but that's not to say it wasn't another slickly run auction.

Have to say, I was happy with the results. I'm hoping to have won all three items I left pre-bids on. Certainly a good auction for collectors who avoided having to pay the sort of prices seen at many recent sales. Thanks for another great selection, Donnis. Here's to the next one.

Very happy with my win as well, but I too was a bit surprised by the 'low' prices for some items. I fully expected to be outbid but ended up winning with my starting bid.

Already looking forward to the next auction!

I picked up a couple of great items. Super auction as usual, ProxiBid was easy to use.

I bid on the SIV-B section but elected to back off as I have no idea where I would put it. I did not want to bid up someone who really wanted it. I was amazed there were no other bidders. (Opening bid at $500, I bid $550, sold for $600).

I have not made offers for the SIV- B section just because I live in Italy... and transport it would be very expensive! I would probably restored and placed in the museum.

Sometimes I want to be American to buy a whole Saturn V!

The latest auction prices may be indicative of a contraction in the field at this time for all but the higher end items.

In the last month I picked up the cheapest Topping LM I have ever seen on ebay in 10 years of looking, and a Corning betacloth framed patch display for half what they were going for 2 years ago.

Bear in mind that in the past several weeks there have been two other high profile space auctions -- Heritage and RR.

Space Collecting is a relatively small field. Having 3 big auctions in a month isn't going to bode well for prices realized in the third auction.

RR specifically is the reason I avoided participating in this auction, as I expected the regular prices.

I have to agree with Steve. There were two major space auctions just prior to this as well as a couple of smaller ones. People only have so much to spend and the other auctions took in the money. I do not see a contraction in prices. I have seen many items, not just high end sell for more than what I think they were worth.

I participated in the Lunar Legacies auction as both a consignor and a buyer. While I felt that I probably could have sold a couple of items for more if I had consigned them to one of the other auctions, this was mitigated by the lower prices I paid for several items I bought. This is not a business for me, it is a hobby. I made back what I had paid for my items(which were duplicates) and was able to buy new items for my collection which I could not have done if the prices were higher. While I would have liked to see a couple of my items sell higher, I set the opening bid and was ok with that. I hope the people who bought my items are as happy with the price they paid as I am with the items I bought.
