Regency-Superior Galleries release
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 13 mission, which story has been told in the award-winning motion picture starring Tom Hanks. Regency-Superior has put together an extensive collection of memorabilia related to that mission and many others - all to go on the auction block on Friday, April 16, 2010 beginning at 10am (Pacific Time) in Beverly Hills, California.

Items from Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Skylab and shuttle missions, as well as Russian and other space programs are represented in this auction, plus early balloon, zeppelin and dirigible flights.

A key item offered is a genuine early Gemini spacesuit (c.1963) complete with helmet, gloves and boots (Lot 99). It was constructed by NASA with gloves made for Gus Grissom, and torso made for Alan Shepard, America's first two astronauts.

Among the Zeppelin material is a wonderful portfolio given to American engineer George Miller who helped design refueling stations for the German Zeppelin company. A fine group of early rocket mail items is also present.

In the Mercury section, we note a photo signed by all seven original Mercury astronauts (Lot 70). This official NASA 8x10" black & white photo shows the early American astronauts gathered around a launch vehicle model.

A unique large die proof of the USA 4c Project Mercury stamp (Lot 94) is offered from the collection of Dr. Reuben Ramkissoon - an incredible exhibit piece to complete your space collection.

The Apollo section sports an Apollo 11 flown to the Moon flag (Lot 190). The flag is signed by Buzz Aldrin, and is presented on a 9x11" Apollo 11 display.

Other highlights from this sale include:

  • Electronic and mechanical parts from Command Modules or Lunar Modules
  • Some extraordinary signed photographs and lithographs from virtually every Apollo astronaut
  • Exemplary section of Shuttle autographed photographs, lithographs & covers
  • A complete Shuttle tire flown during the ALT (Approach and Landing Test) program
  • A Shuttle Aft Flight Deck Trainer that was used to train Astronauts for STS-61, the first mission to repair the Hubble telescope
Join us in person at our Beverly Hills gallery, or bid LIVE online via our website. All lots are available for viewing in our Beverly Hills gallery beginning on Tuesday, April 13th. You may also view lots and place bids directly on our website.

Good Luck with Your Bidding!

Received my auction catalogue here in the UK this morning. Some very nice items listed to my inexperienced eye.

Must now see what I can afford to bid on!

Received mine too today. One question so far concerning lot #307 on page 57. Apollo 16 LM foil "removed before launch." Does this mean surplus removed prior to lift-off from the Pad or a piece taken off the LM while still on the moon?

Lot 307 was removed from module before launch from KSC; if it had been on the Moon's surface we would have indicated that (and estimated it higher). Thank you for asking.

Those lucites and the fake/replica lunar sample disks produced by the same person were discussed at some length when they began appearing on eBay.

Personally I always found the ambiguous wording on the pieces themselves to be disingenuous. It would be nice if Regency could be clearer in the auction listings for these items to avoid any misunderstanding on the part of bidders.

Does anybody have any comments on items 216 and 217? I don't know about the Neil Armstrongs.

I prefer #216 over #217, but to be honest wouldn't personally bid on either. I'm no expert so maybe someone else with a better knowledge may help you.

Partial to lot 138 as the "deal of the day" (which I picked up). It was misidentified from the wrong flight vehicle (its CM vice LM) and also flown to lunar orbit on Endeavor.

Interesting to see Shepard's G2G suit go for $160,000 + commission - especially as I've got the original gloves

The sale of the Shepard suit means that there are now the parts for two more or less complete G2G suits circulating in the collectors market. The same New York art dealer who sold the Shepard gloves also offered Grissom's G2G (and White's too).

Unfortunately I lost Lot #384: c.1980s Space Shuttle Window Locking Ring for 10$ more, that I was intereseted in. I only won an Apollo valve.

Seems to be quite a few of these Shepard G2-G suits around! Page 42 of Amanda Young's Spacesuits book lists the suit shown as G2-G - Shepard B.F Goodrich, 1962.

An incredible price for a very historically unimportant suit. Makes Sotheby's Gagarin SK-1 training suit look an absolute bargain!
