Regency-Superior Auctions, the country's leading auctioneer of Space Memorabilia, is traveling to two major cities to conduct free Appraisal Clinics.

The company will be hosting these clinics in Cape Canaveral, Florida on Saturday and Sunday, November 17-18th at the Residence Inn Cape Canaveral. Two weeks later, Regency-Superior will travel to Houston, Texas on Saturday, December 1st at the Hilton Houston NASA Clear Lake Hotel.

Regency-Superior will have their space experts on hand to evaluate, appraise and assist collectors wishing to get top dollar for their space-related and early aviation memorabilia. Collectors are encouraged to bring any astronaut autographs, flown flags and equipment, uniforms, medallions, models, crew patches, documents, and commemorative presentations for auction.

Regency-Superior conducts two major Space Memorabilia auctions each year at their Beverly Hills gallery. Their experience is second to none, and is well known throughout the world for their auctions of stamps & coins, sports, Hollywood, and space memorabilia.

Their auctions realize some of the top values in the industry, selling to collectors from the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Each of their sales is simulcast on eBay live, allowing collectors to bid on items prior to, and during the public auction itself.

Space memorabilia is in high demand. Past auctions have brought incredible prices particularly for items that were flown in space, and for those that were aboard lunar landings. Recently, a 1969 flown cover, autographed by the entire crew of Apollo 11, and notated in Michael Collins' hand which read "Carried to the Moon aboard Apollo 11" sold for $20,000.

A King James Bible inside a beta cloth zippered pouch flown aboard ALL Skylab Missions, sold for $7,500. Additionally, models of various prototypes and craft are extremely desirable. A 1964 LEM NASA concept model sold for $8,000. This four-part model was made by a master modeler at Johnson Space Center Technical Services, and was on display for many years at JSC.

For more information regarding the Space Memorabilia Appraisal Clinics in Cape Canaveral and Houston, please contact Alan Lipkin at (310) 553-5475 or email alipkin@RegencySuperior.com.

The Huntsville Times: Autograph can be 'right stuff' at space auction
A distinguished-looking older gentleman walked into a small meeting room at the Marriott Hotel and told the appraiser who'd set up shop there for the day that his wife had some "junk" she wanted him to look at.

For Alan Lipkin - who specializes in space memorabilia - what the woman with the man was carrying inside her paper sack could either be a gold mine or a dud. He's been appraising other people's stuff for years, and he's seen it go both ways.

I would like to throw open for suggestions a couple of questions that I have.

I have held several 'Space Memorabilia Appraisal Clinics" over the past couple of years in several different U.S. Cities. These have included: Houston, TX, Titusville, FL, Huntsville, AL & Washington, D.C.

People have brought all sorts of material for evaluation as to its value and or suitability for auction.

I have two questions:

  1. What do you think of changing the name of these "Space Memorabilia Appraisal Clinics" to "Space Road Shows"?
  2. Where would you recommend that I go in the future for these shows?
I can (and probably will) return to those areas where I have already been, but I would like to widen the field so to speak. I have a few ideas myself, but I would love the input from people here.

I am looking forward to hearing from you.

I can see changing the name a bit from "Space Memorabilia Appraisal Clinic", but "Space Road Show" is I think too broad or vague. Could be a science demonstration.

Unless you think it's too long, I think that the name that will make anyone realize exactly what is going on (that is, what they should bring to get looked at) would be
"Space Memorabilia Appraisal Road Show."

By picking Houston, TX, Titusville, FL, Huntsville, AL & Washington, D.C., you've already gone to the four places where a lot of space history occurred. How about just a major city far from where you've already gone, like LA, New York, or Chicago?

How about Dover, Delaware (home of ILC), Windsor Locks, Hartford, Connecticut (home of Hamilton Standard/Sundstrand), Worcester, Massachusetts (home of David Clark/Airlock), and Akron, Ohio (home of B.F. Goodrich) - but I want first pick from that sale.

Thanks for your replies, we will really take them into consideration.

Robert, much as I would like to attend the Ohio show, it is only one week after our October Space Memorabilia auction, it is too close to schedule. We are looking at our calendar for the rest of 2008 & all of 2009 and will come up with a schedule of "Road Shows".

So far "Space Collectibles Road Show" seems to be in the lead for a "title". Space Memorabilia is a bit too much of a mouth-full.

I like the idea of going to some larger metropolitan areas that do not have a specific connection to space like New York, Chicago, Boston. Some of the lesser visited areas with connections to the space program will aso be on our agenda. Keep sending your suggestions, it is really helpful!

Boston is good. NASA's Electronics Research Center operated in Kendall Square, Cambridge (bordering Boston) across from MIT during the mid-60's. Also Hanscom Field AF base is not too far away. So, there is a decent chance for some interesting stuff to surface. - Mike

Much like "Antiques Road Show", it would be nice if someone could have a video camera present and post some youtube-type videos of some of the more interesting items to show up. That might also be a way to garner interest among some people who otherwise wouldn't know about or wouldn't bid in future Regency-Superior auctions.

I think it would be wonderful, in lieu of YouTube videos, maybe just pictures and appraisal value in order to create an online 'catalog' of items. This may also help the lineage and provenance in the future, as well as those who have similar items to know 'what its worth'. Plus, it would just be darn fun. I had fun just going through Christie's site to look at the items from the 2001 auction.

For Mike, I am hoping to possibly do appraisal services of space memorabilia during the upcoming air and space show at Kennedy Space Center in Nov. 2008. I'll post developments as they become available and confirmed.
