I wanted to take a moment to thank Hoot Gibson, Al Worden and everyone at the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation for 2 fantastic trips I won in the ASF auction at the Sims/Hankow autograph show this past year.

First, back in September, I was the lucky ASF auction winner to be a member of the pit crew for the Mighty Riff Raff at the Reno Air Races. Hoot Gibson and the "real" pit crew of the Mighty Riff Raff could not have been nicer. It was a true once in a lifetime experience for me. I am a big fan of air racing and I was in heaven for a week.

My second ASF auction trip was just this past weekend with Apollo 15 astronaut Al Worden. I won tickets to the Denver Broncos football game in Mile High Stadium with Al Worden as my host. A dear friend flew in to attend the game with me and the three of us had a fantastic time! First class tickets to the game. I must say, when the outside temp. is 25 degrees, the only place to watch the game is from the Club Level in Mile High Stadium!! Al could not have been nicer and was the perfect host.

Both Hoot and Al were first class hosts. Getting to spend time with these two fine gentlemen was an honor. Yes, I did take the time to ask A LOT of questions about the flights they were on and other topics and they could not have been nicer.

I know there will be another ASF auction this year and I urge everyone here on the site to take a chance and bid to win one of these experiences. The money raised from the auction goes to a great cause and I know you will enjoy the experience!

Thanks again to Al, Hoot, Linn Leblanc and everyone at the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation.

I'm glad you had a great time. The ASF auction items (both the experiences and the tangible objects) sure seemed impressive on paper/screen, so it's good to see that the follow-through was worth being so happy with!

By the way, my brother lives in Durango and I've been there a bunch of times. Treat yourself to breakfast at Carvers tomorrow! Then on Tuesday listen to his bluegrass show on KDUR at 6:00!

Thanks for the report, Leon. It's fun to hear how these events go down for the auction winners.

All times are CT (US)
