Excerpts from Skinner's release quote: Skinner, one of the nation's leading auction houses, will hold an auction of Science & Technology on Sunday, October 28, 2007 at 10 a.m. at its Bolton [Mass.] gallery located at 357 Main Street. Skinner is one of the few auction houses in the world, and the only major auction house in the U.S., to offer sales focused on Science and Technology.... For collectors of NASA space memorabilia, bidders will fancy a Mercury 7 astronaut’s test glove (lot 193B, est. $12/15,000) featuring pen inscriptions Glenn and Schirra; a Project Gemini space flight capsule floatation ball (lot 193C, est. $1/1,500) referred to on its tag as “Unsinkable Molly Brown”; and a N.A.S.A. final Apollo 11 flight plan (lot 193D, est. $10/15,000) inscribed to “Arlene” and signed in person by the astronauts Buzz Aldren [sic], Neil Armstrong, Mike Collins and eighteen others. For camera collectors a Leica M2 No. 1017843, chrome, (lot 338, est. $6/800) is expected to draw significant interest.

Lot 193D--It was surfaced after all these years! This is the same final Apollo 11 flight plan manual that my friend "Arlene" showed me while visiting her in Cocoa Beach, FL. The other two "not named" signed astronauts on the lot description were Alan Bean and Stu Roosa. Unfortunately, as I remembered seeing it nearly 15+ years ago, many of the signatures are not in the best condition--and--lacks the autographs of all 12 moonwalkers, but came close. Missing is Irwin, Young, Duke and Schmitt. All could still be added, but with the only exception of Irwin. Other Apollo astronauts not included would be Borman, Anders, McDivitt, Haise, Swigert, Mattingly and Evans. Nice to see an old friend again, huh? | |
