Some interesting items in Cobbs' March 15 Space and Aviation Auction. quote:
Items represented are from the Aerospace collections of North American Aviation test pilot and Chief Executive of Public Relations for Rockwell Charles "Chuck" Graham and Air Force One Pilot Colonel James D. Swindal. Items to be sold include rare and original "North American Aviation" Desk Models including the only known example of the 1962 Boeing VC-137C "Air Force One" and other J.F.K. Presidential memorabilia as well as the majority of NAA production propeller and experimental jet aircraft from 1944 to 1954 including rare "X" type Aircraft. Also from the same collections are rare NASA Space memorabilia including desk models, Astronaut signed photographs, distinctive insignia including "Interstellar Association of Turtles", NAA Mach Buster pins, Space Flight patches, Jimmy Doolittle Raider Crew signed memorabilia and more.

I sent Cobb an email earlier this week about that lot asking them to open the package and let us see the contents. They are old patches, but I expect they are souvenir Gemini mission patches. |

For the Gemini lots you can only see the front of the project patch (not a rare version) and the back of the Gemini 12 patch. The GT12 is the regular souvenir patch as far as I can see so I'm pretty sure it's just a pack of bare back souvenir patches from AB Emblem. |

This is my auction and I apologize for not getting back with those pictures to the gentleman who emailed about them. Just got back from a Warbird conference in CA and am catching up on email and calls. Cant say enough how much I agree that the over tracing on the autographs is "tragic" and very disappointing. Hello again, to everyone watching my sale. I will open the shrink pack that is encapsulating all the patches in lot 113 and lay them bare for all of you to see. I originally decided to leave them intact on the off chance that perhaps it would be a poor idea to open the package and ruin the fact that they had never been opened before. Just being cautious. Your feedback has led me to decide that it would be best for all to just open the group of patches and lets see what is really there. I will do so tomorrow afternoon after I remove 18" inches of snow from 11 acres of land. ( I am not thrilled at this prospect!) I will post these photos on my website as well as ebay and I hope you will let me know what you think! I will also share my expert opinion with regards to lot 11 and lot 17. Anyone interested to hear what I have to say? I am very happy to be able to take part in this forum. Please feel free to write me with any questions you might have and I will answer them honestly and concisely. |

OK, the close up shots on lot 113 (opened) are now on the website as well as 3 addendum lots of autographs that are from a new local consignor and not part of the first 2 collections. www.thecobbs.com |

It's not encouraging to see from the eBay listings that the auction house doesn't take payment via PayPal or credit card.What's worse though is that they don't ship items at all. Given the example last year of an auction house whose shipper was charging $50-$100+ to mail a single signed 8x10 photo this may be off-putting to overseas buyers. It would at least be helpful to have an idea of the fees charged by the recommended shipping service for a few representative items. |

I guess any patch fans will already have noticed that the two Rockwell International windbreakers are decorated with most Lion Brothers patches (lots 152 and 153).It's been mentioned before that some contractors used LB to supply shuttle mission patches to their workers and Rockwell International is a good example. Both jackets have nearly complete sets of Lion Brothers shuttle patches sewn-on - 152 is missing STS-9 and the ALT patch but has two STS-1 for some reason ; 153 is missing STS-6 and appears to have AB versions of the ALT and STS-2 patches. Both jackets have a number of patches from STS-51E onwards, produced after the last generally recognized LB shuttle mission patch (51C). As far as I can see these appear to AB Emblem versions, although it would be nice if the eventual buyers of these jackets could verify this. Again this tends to confim that Lion Brothers stopped producing STS patches after STS-51C, although it might only indicate that after 51C Rockwell switched suppliers from Lion Brothers to AB Emblem. |

I was wondering if anyone won anything from the Cobbs auction this weekend. I had my eye on a few items, as I have a passion for both space and aviation. I won a pair of X-15 cufflinks but that was it - everything else went above my price range. I really wanted one of the two Saturn V Flight Manuals - but they got way too expensive for me at $550. Just curious if anyone thought that was a good price - and if anyone on cS won one?!Take care
