Okay, it's time to stop being coy and 'fess up to what you bought at the Aurora auction!

Personally, I missed everything I was originally looking to buy. The only thing I got in the end was one of the Apollo 13 flown flag presentations.

I ended up with Eisle's CSM Malfunction Xlist to add to my collection of CSM documents; An ASTP MFA medallion w/certificate; An ASTP cover and a Shepard signed copy of Moonshot.

However, I REALLY wanted that Snoopy proof sheet. I saw a bidding war ensuing and figured that I'd better get out while I was still ahead. Next time.

I was outbid on everything else. Still a pretty good day.

Picked up 2 items:

Still not sure about the first one.

Bob Overmyers Arobatic comptency report

and

The flown Vietnam flag, Noe if I knew the British flag was only going to go for $175 I would have saved up.

The Flag is my first flown flag so I'm over the moon, I'm hoping this isn't going to be my last as I would like to get an Aussie flag, Us Flag, Soviet Flag and a Russian flag at some stage.

I picked up lot #679 a McCall drawn FDC and lot #1230 an X-15 contractor's model. I'm pretty happy to be able to add two nice pieces to my collection. I hope everyone else was able to do the same!

I set out to pick up a Gemini acrylic for a reasonable price. Mission accomplished. Now I have an acrylic from Mercury, Gemini and Apollo. I would like to pick up the Code 3 models of the above mentioned spacecraft and create a nice little display.

Unfortunately I was unable to attend the auction in person. I was able to bid over the phone and found it was quite a good alternative.

While I really missed being there in person and saying hi to everyone, "Hi Everyone," the phone in option got the job done very nicely.

Thanks to everyone at Aurora for bringing it all together.

Warm Regards

Enjoy yourself and have fun.... it is only a hobby!

Come on now - did no-one here buy any of the Richard Gordon flown items - spacesuit patches, pens etc?

Those were great items. I can't believe that not one was bought by a CS member!

Don't be shy now.

No books this time Adam, Very Suprised.

And if I knew it was you bidding on the flag I might have taken it up to $200

Any one have any idea how many flags were flown on these Soviet Flights?

And the question still remains where are the Australian flags from the Shuttle flights?

Skippy, I guess that the Russians ( Soviets then ) took more "stuff" into space as propaganda & relations with their Eastern block countries were very important in the 1970s and 1980s ...
About Aurora I can only say that my maximum spending money was US $ 100.00 ...

Seeing the prices they went for, I wish I had bid on the hardcover copies of Stages to Saturn and Moonport, but I always worry that I may win all I bid on and be skint for the rest of my life !

Im chuffed about the British Flag going for the price it did, that left me enough money to get a signed TM-12 crew pic and a TM-12 patch from Lovaura. Should make for a nice display I think.

Funny thing my nexr question was going to, What is the best way to display this type of flag.

Ie copy an Apollo 11 type, Add a phot of the crew, Ablurb about the history.

Must admit my buget was $250 ish and like other I let items pass that I might have bid on otherwise.

It was only when one of the Shuttle flown Soviet flags went for around $200 that I thought I'll go for a flown flag.

Must also admit my preference was for a hammer and Sickle flag BUT I would take any flag if it kept me under my Budget Hence being 2nd highest bidder on a number of the Flags But wait next time around they will go for the $350+ like they did last auction!

Hi everyone-
What a thrill this weekend. This was my first auction, and really my first leap into buying any space memorabilia. (up to now, it’s been just a few autographed photos). I took a run at one of the Apollo flown flags, but they quickly went above my wallet. But for a fraction of the cost of a single flag, I got a few nice goodies on Sunday.

I’ve always wanted a flown flag, so I got the Russian TM-14 flag, and the STS-43 flown patch (I spent way more than I really wanted on the patch – got caught up in the moment…) I also got one of the ASTP gold foil presentations, the Buran commemorative cover, and one of the Russian presentation lucites for L.S. Demin (the one from the Journalists of Pravda – I really wanted the next Lucite presentation – the one with the jets in the corner but my daughter called me outside to play on the trampoline and my absentee bid got out bid… I was mad at first, but then I just laughed and realized I had more fun with my daughter, and the $225 I “saved” I’m gong to go spent it doing something with her.

My surprises were 2 shuttle crew signed photo montages (the photo collages – STS 36 and 39). The online bids were fairly low so spur of the moment I bid. Does anyone know who puts these together? Is this an individual who makes these, or are these a NASA collage? I just thought they looked nice.

The only thing I really wanted but didn’t get (beside the Lucite above) was a Buran tile but I couldn’t be there to bid. The few other things went way above my limit, and I held firm from that dangerous ‘bid’ click. It was hard, at times – you can certainly get caught up in the moment. Of course, there went all my ‘fun money’ for the rest of the year, but it was a good time. Hope everyone else that bid and won had as much fun as I did.

Hi Ian,

It seems you may have a theme building there if you want to get flags of other countries in the future. How about framing the flag with an image of its respective country taken from space ? The NASA Visible Earth site could give you a few ideas http://visibleearth.nasa.gov/

Try playing around with an image editing program and designing adisplay like that. I just made a quick one for my flag with Paint Shop Pro http://www.adboo.com/auto/cs.htm
As you can see you can get a fairly decent looking image and chop and change as much as you like. Im leaning towards a display without the crew pic as it would probably look too cluttered.

Good luck........Adam

In answer to a prior post on this forum, most of the Shuttle crew-signed montages were presentations from NASA, the Astronaut Office at JSC, a participating contractor, and even sometimes from the Dept. of Defense.
Most have originated from the Astronaut Office and various NASA departments when you see a flown mission patch and/or American flag (sometimes both). Most are hand-signed by the participating crewmembers, but in some cases, other may be signed be an individual astronaut crewmember or even a non-astronaut agency or department official.
