I am looking for an illustration of the passenger-carrying module that SPACEHAB, Inc., originally proposed as a Shuttle payload in the early 1980s. As you might know, the passenger module gained no traction, but SPACEHAB adapted its concept to NASA's needs and produced a series of successful single- and double-"middeck augmentation modules" that flew on many stand-alone missions and logistics missions to Mir and the ISS. My interest is in illustrating what might have been in terms of providing a large, well-controlled sample population of volunteer research subjects for space physiology studies without bothering the professional astronauts. I have Googled the web and specifically searched the collectSPACE message archives without success. Anyone who has such an illustration, or can point me to one on the web or even in an actual book, is invited to share that illustration or info with me. |

There are some good Hollywood shots in the movie "Moonraker." I saw it on the shelf in a store yesterday and thought about picking it up. Looks like I need to go back. Otherwise Karma wouldn't have let you post the question... |

Scott, thanks, I hadn't thought of a dozen space marines in the payload bay as volunteer research subjects, but maybe so! |

There was also the civilians in the orbiter that Bond and Goodhead flew to orbit. There was some quotes like, "Let's see what our cargo is," and then he turned on a little monitor that showed them in their seats in the cargo bay (Spacehab). Too nerdy that I remember that. But now you are forcing me to watch it again... Dang! |

Scott is correct... that was a different shuttle in the movie. The space marines were a later launch in the movie, from Vandenberg... |

Just in case anyone is laying awake at night wondering what the Citron-designed Space Shuttle passenger module might have looked like, you can see a few rough concepts from 1985 at Space Future. |
