http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4225896.stm This story has details about an artificiual hand developed at University of Southampton. [They have a good space department there - where I have given several lectures over the years !] This artificial hand (or a advanced version of it) could well be used on a Mars or Moon rover to pickup and 'handle' rocks and other specimens of interest.
