I am looking for people that have early missile and rocket photos for a book on the White Sands Proving Grounds from 1945 to 1958. The book is being written by Greg Kennedy who has done many rocket related books in the past. Some of them include "Germany's V-2 Rocket", "First Men in Space", "Apollo to the Moon", and many others. Specific photos of interest include:
  • Early WSPG facilities
  • Corporal Missile
  • WAC Corporal
  • Private A
  • Private F
  • Loki
  • Lacrosse
  • Dart
  • Honest John
  • Little John
  • Nike Ajax
  • Bumper
  • Hermes A-1
  • Talos
  • Terrier
Please forward any photos on to Greg Kennedy at Ripcord2K@aol.com or post questions on this web page and I will do my best to reply to them. I was told that there isn't a lot of funding for this book so purchasing photos from the Smithsonian and other institutions is not likely and that is why I have done this post. I have sent Greg most of what I have which includes photos of the V-2, Viking, Corporal, Honest John, and Nike Ajax but he is looking for as much as possible on all the different types of rockets used during that time period. If photos are used in publication your name will be cited as a reference. It's a good chance to get your name into a book. If you have any additional questions or comments I will do my best to answer them or forward them on to Greg.

I have started a file for photos for Greg... only 10 so far but several have illustrative potential. I will keep looking and eventually I will mail scans for what I have to Greg for consideration.

Are you interested in photos of these rockets only in a White Sands context, or are you looking for general photos of these missiles for illustrative purposes? I might be able to dig up a couple old ones, but I doubt the settings are WSPG.

Cheers,

Kevin

Kevin,

Ultimately, a White Sands backdrop would be best but if there are photos of certain rockets/missiles during this time frame that are deployed in other regions of the world then I think this would also be beneficial. I would love to see any photos you can drum up. Thanks for the reply.

I didn't find anything in my collection, but I came across this item on eBay.

The buyer seems to buy up groups of photos, then resells them individually for much more. I got outbid by him on a group of Wright Field photos recently.

Anyway, this shows some of the missiles you're looking for at White Sands. The may have them for resale already or you could contact him to inquire.

Also, if you search for "white sands" on e-bay, you'll find a few rocket pictures. While you may not want to buy them, you can at least enjoy the lower-resolution images included on the item pages.

Cheers,

Kevin

Kevin,

I did see these photos but they want just a little too much for them. Thanks for the info though.
