What color is a V-2 rocket motor? Was it black or green? What color was the inside of the fuselage? Were the fuel tanks aluminum?

There ia a lot of confusion out there about this!

There are many V-weapons with "enlightened" colors for display but if you are trying to model one right, what was the colors of the equipment inside a V-2 or even a V-1? Send pictures if available.

There is some color V-2/Germany footage on our "Liftoff!" DVD. There are a few shots of the inside of a V-2, being shown to Himmler. This footage was shot the day a V-2 took off after Himmler's plane.

The set also contains some White Sands footage. There's some shots of the inside of the V-2, with what looks like cotton padding between the outside skin and the tanks (the tank skin was not the outside skin).

There were some V-2 engines on display here in UK. The ones I have seen have always been the base metal colour, i.e. unpainted.

Now the "paint," if any, may have been removed when UK MoD units were examining these captured units immediately after the war and subsequently the engines prepared for museum displays?

But, from my inspection, I don't think the ones on display in UK had been painted at all. Why waste paint, money and time on a military item that is going to become fairly hot (!!) to say the least?

All times are CT (US)
