The Union for Concerned Scientists recently releases a survey of active satellites in Earth orbit. According to the survey the US has 413 active satellites of all kinds in orbit, while the rest of the world has only 382. Some of our secret satellites take images in the dark from as high as 12,000 miles. The complete story is here:
