It has been alluded to several times that Voskhod 1 could have remained in space longer. Does anyone know how much longer?

My guess is three days. With three people on board that comes out to 9 man days. That's stretching the Vostok/Voskhod spacecraft, but that is just a guess.

Like the Gemini 5 and 7 missions, that would have been one smelly capsule after a while!

Interesting to note that the order to return to Earth included the cryptic remark "There is more in heaven and earth than is dreamt of in your philosophy..." This may have been due to the fact that Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev was deposed from power during the flight.

That "cryptic" remark has been made by Korolyov closing the discussion with the commander Komarov who asked for the flight prolongation.

There were plans for the twenty days flight of Voschod 3 with two cosmonauts onboard (Volynov and Shonin) and then some other extended missions, however, after Korolyov´s death and Soyuz era coming these plans were cancelled.

All times are CT (US)
