In the event that a Soyuz spacecraft is forced to abort shortly after launch and has to use the launch escape system, will the escape system pull the entire spacecraft out or will it disconnect and leave behind the service module section and just withdraw the orbital and decent modules?

It looks like the tower and aero shroud covers the entire spacecraft so when the escape system fires it would pull away the entire spacecraft, unlike Apollo which would just tow the command module.

Any information is appreciated.

As far as I'm aware the escape tower shroud is attached directly to the descent capsule. If fired it pulls only the OM and DM off the rocket. The flaps are then deployed to stabilize it all and the DM drops away for the parachute to open...

All times are CT (US)
