Has the Proton booster ever been rated for human flight? I realize it's never been used for this purpose, but I just wonder if it has ever been considered?

The Proton was originally envisioned by Vladimir Chelomei to launch two-man Zond spacecraft for a lunar orbit mission.

I believe that Space Adventures' private lunar fly-by mission looked at reviving this idea but ultimately decided on launching the crew on a Soyuz and having them rendezvous with an Earth-departure stage launched on an unmanned Proton.

Also, I think part of the problem with the Proton is that its extremely toxic propellants would be a nightmare for any escaping crew in a launchpad emergency...
