I just saw these models at the Bonham's space auction in a few days. Apparently these were hand made by Grumman in the late 60's. I'd love to get them.
It's really interesting the progression the shuttle went through. I didn't realize they were considering a single rocket at one time. One of them even has a bubble canopy for a cockpit window. You can see in the photos.

Same I would like to have those models. The single rocket version might have ended up being safer since there would be no foam shedding.

Not true, the orbiter is still attached to the side of the tank.
