Does anyone have any images or perhaps video of former baseball star (and accomplished pilot!) Ted Williams at the Kennedy Space Center to witness the STS-95 launch or landing? I understand that he was in attendance due to his long-term relationship with John Glenn. Thanks very much!

Jerry Matulka (cS: marsguy) has a photo of Williams at the Kennedy Space Center press site before the launch. I noticed a huge throng of press over by the grandstand congregated around someone. Surely this must be some well-respected astronaut. I headed over to the throng to see what the interest was. When I got there, I realized it wasn't an astronaut at all. Rather it was former baseball star Ted Williams. Williams had flown fighter jets with John Glenn in Korea and that is why he was attending the launch. I tried to get a photograph of Williams, but with the throng of people I only got a picture of his head. And NASA has a photo of Glenn with Williams following a welcome home parade down State Road A1A. |

No pictures, but he was indeed there. Saw him myself. |

Jimmy, fantastic that you saw him, but, come on, you are one of my primary KSC photo sources! No photos??? Very unlike you Based on Robert's reply above (thanks, Robert) referencing Mr. Matulka's photo, it seems there was much fuss about Williams' attendance, yet I can not seem to find any video or additional photos. Williams was interviewed by Tom Brokaw at the press site but I can not locate the NBC coverage of STS-95 on the net. Now that Williams' attendance of the launch and Cocoa Beach parade is confirmed, I am looking for video talking about his relationship with Glenn at the STS-95 activities. Back to the drawing board! | |
