By the time of Challenger, the crew for 61-J had been announced, which had five crew members. Granted, Hubble is controlled by the ground (and not from the Shuttle, as with the Spacelab telescopes), but were there any considerations to flying a Hubble scientist as a payload specialist? (Granted, Grunsfeld would have been rather young at the time, but I can't get the image of an alternate universe where his first flight is as a PS on 61-J....)

No Payload Specialists were going to fly with Hubble on 61-J.The crew that flew STS-31 with the change of Shriver for Young was the only change.

All times are CT (US)
