On the third day of the recent STS-126 mission, Endeavour's crew tested a new HD downlink method using some of the footage from their rendezvous pitch maneuver, the "back flip" they performed prior to docking with the International Space Station.Though the test was previously available on YouTube, to really appreciate the results you need to download the full screen HD version. Right click (control click on Mac) to save: View in Windows Media (WMV, 56mb)Thanks to Moonbase_Alphan for the video! |

Brings to mind a question...are there any further plans to fly an IMAX camera aboard the remaining shuttle flights? It would a shame not to see the completed ISS on the big screen, I think. |

An IMAX camera will fly on STS-125: Hubble Telescope to star in IMAX 3D filmDue to weight constraints, only an exterior-mounted camera (in the payload bay) will fly. The filmmakers plan to use HD footage (such as demonstrated during STS-126) to compensate for the lack of an in-cabin camera. |

Thanks Robert... I sure hope they find the value in flying it to ISS once more before this is all over. |

Do I remember hearing that they can only shoot 8 minutes of IMAX film at a time before they have to reload? |

Yes, there's a total of 8 minutes per film reel and each scene is just 30 seconds long. And as it is a payload bay-mounted camera, there will be no reloading for STS-125. |
