Spacefacts is showing a partial crew for STS-129: - George Zamka, CDR
- Kevin Ford, PLT
- Leland Melvin, MS
- Anna Fisher, MS
With smoke there's usually fire, so there must be some kind of substantiation for this for them to post it. |

Chris Bergin at NASASpaceflight.com inquired and learned that while the four have been assigned to train together in the shuttle simulator, that it neither means they are necessarily the crew for the next available flight (STS-129) or that they will all be flying together... |

At the very least, Anna Fisher's prospects for another flight seem to have significantly increased. |

I agree it would be nice if Anna Fisher got her 2nd. flight. I was kinda thinking that the last shuttle flight should be with as many of the 78 class to 87 class astronauts on the flight. I know it wouldn't happen but we can always play flight crew assignments. |

Is there any news about the STS-129 Crew assignments and especially the rumour that Anna Lee Fisher was selected for this mission. Even Wikipedia lists Anna Lee Fisher now as a crewmember. |

Her Wiki biography does state that she is a crewmember on STS-129. However, the STS-129 page on Wikipedia does not show a crew. |

The STS-129 crew has not been named yet, neither publicly or internally. Fisher's name appeared on a sim training crew manifest* obtained by another website that in turn led to the current rash of Wikipedia edits. That doesn't mean she won't be on the crew but as of now, she is unassigned... * Sim crews need not be related to any specific mission. |

Well, it can't be too long before NASA announces the STS-129 crew right?Usually one year before the targetted launch date the crew is selected. The fact that Anna Lee Fisher has been an astronaut for a very long time and the fact that NASA allowed her to have a very long leave of absence probably don't make a difference in the crew selection process. I think a lot of space- enthousiasts (like myself) just really would like to see Anna Lee Fisher get a shuttle mission one more time before the shuttle retires...

George Zamka is shown as Commander on the same sources that show Fisher. I find it kind of hard to believe Zamka would get a command slot before Charles Hobaugh (unless there's a reason Hobaugh won't be named as a shuttle CDR). The sources also show Leland Melvin as MS, although he's apparently taken some kind of position at the University of Richmond (VA) for a year. |

I think this sim crew was the one that trained with Zamka for his CDR Upgrade training. |

That's exactly what it was, and should be treated as such. (And, frankly, removed from the site where it appears.) No 129 crew has been assigned, and isn't likely until after 125 flies. |

Like Terry Virts, who told his hometown newspaper that he was preparing "for his mission to the International Space Station next fall," Barry Wilmore has done the same during a recent interview with The Wilson Post: In the fall of 2009 Commander Wilmore expects to be at the controls of a space shuttle mission to the International Space Station -- certainly going faster and higher than anyone who grew up on West Wilson County's Vanderbilt Road. |

NASA release NASA Assigns Crew For Space Shuttle Discovery's STS-129 MissionNASA has assigned the crew for space shuttle Discovery's STS-129 mission. The flight will deliver two experiment racks to the International Space Station. Marine Col. Charlie Hobaugh will command the mission, which is targeted to launch in October 2009. Navy Capt. Barry Wilmore will serve as the pilot. Mission Specialists are Robert Satcher, Navy Capt. Michael Foreman, Marine Lt. Col. Randy Bresnik and Leland Melvin. Wilmore, Satcher and Bresnik will be making their first trips to space. The mission will return Canadian Space Agency astronaut and station crew member Robert Thirsk to Earth. This is slated to be the final space shuttle crew rotation flight to or from the space station. Discovery will deliver parts to the space station, including two spare gyroscopes. The mission will feature four spacewalks.
Hobaugh flew as the pilot on STS-104 in 2001 and STS-118 in 2007. He was born in Bar Harbor, Maine. Hobaugh earned a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy. He was selected as an astronaut in 1996. Wilmore was born in Murfreesboro, Tenn., and grew up in Mt. Juliet. He has bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering from Tennessee Technological University, and a master's degree in aviation systems from University of Tennessee. He was selected as an astronaut in 2000. Foreman was born in Columbus, Ohio, but considers Wadsworth his hometown. He earned a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and a master's degree in aeronautical engineering from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School. Foreman flew as a mission specialist on STS-123 in 2008 and performed three spacewalks. He was selected as an astronaut in 1998. Satcher was selected as an astronaut in 2004. He earned a doctorate in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He also is a graduate of Harvard Medical School. He was born in Hampton, Va. Bresnik, also selected as an astronaut in 2004. He was born in Fort Knox, Ky., but considers Santa Monica, Calif., his hometown. Bresnik earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from The Citadel and a master's degree in aviation systems from the University of Tennessee. Melvin flew as a mission specialist on the STS-122 mission in 2008. He was born in Lynchburg, Va. Melvin earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from the University of Richmond and a master's degree in materials science engineering from the University of Virginia. He was selected as an astronaut in 1998. Thirsk will be concluding his long-duration stay on the station when STS-129 launches. He is scheduled to arrive at the complex in May 2009 aboard a Soyuz spacecraft and serve as a flight engineer during parts of Expeditions 20 and 21. |
