The crew of STS-116 will deliver a third truss segment, a SPACEHAB module and other key components during the shuttle's 20th mission to the International Space Station. quote: These seven astronauts take a break from training to pose for the STS-116 crew portrait. Scheduled to launch aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery are, front row (from the left), astronauts William A. Oefelein, pilot; Joan E. Higginbotham, mission specialist; and Mark L. Polansky, commander. On the back row (from the left) are astronauts Robert L. Curbeam, Nicholas J.M. Patrick, Sunita L. Williams and the European Space Agency's Christer Fuglesang, all mission specialists. Williams will join Expedition 14 in progress to serve as a flight engineer aboard the International Space Station. The crewmembers are attired in training versions of their shuttle launch and entry suits.

Is this mission launching during the day or night?Did anyone copy the original crew portrait before the crew change? It was shown on KSC archives, then removed after the two year hold on further launching just when I was going to save it on disc. |

Yes, this mission is scheduled to be the first night launch of the shuttle since STS-113 in 2002. Dec 7 would be about 945pm by my estimate (Dec 14 is 6:55pm).Edit: 9:38pm on the 7th to be exact. |
